How to make your own Bird Seed and Save Money

Cheaper still....melt crisco and blend your ingredients...melt a cup of peanut butter (dollar store)...corn meal...cheap oats...mix, blend freeze and put in suet cages.......BIRDS LOVE IT....PUT FLOUR IN MIX FOR NOMELT SUET!

The little birdies up here in Central Minnesota tend to go for the smaller millet seeds, which are more expensive in the bird seed store bags. I buy big bags like your mixture online ~but I do see I need to add some of that smaller millet. The big birds want bigger chunks of fruit and things like that and nuts and so I’ll spend the money on that but try to mix various big bags I could get delivered. When the birds don’t like what’s in the feeder they don’t leave it alone they pull it all out till they find what they want. But in the end the snow melts and the ground shows all the spilled seeds ~the larger flocks of red wing blackbirds, grackles, and crows will show up and eat it all eventually. I bought some suet online some high protein suet and the woodpeckers won’t even touch it because it has GMO corn in it. The animals can tell the difference.

I started feeding the birds during the extreme heat and drought here in Louisiana this year and they helped by hunting down my garden pests each morning. I don`t use poisons except for some dust I had to put on my amaranth to save it from worms but I only used a tiny bit once. I put trail cameras out where I feed them and captured some great pictures.
