Thanks for the vid. We have plenty of wild turkeys here in our neighborhood. I dug through my old film camera bag and found two empty 35mm film cannisters. So I made a call like yours. I was in the garage practicing when my wife drove up with some groceries. I made some calls after she shut off the engine. "What is that? Is that a Duck call?" lol

It is a great feeling to call a turkey up with a call you made yourself. I was fortunate enough to find an unfortunate hen on the side of the road years ago. I don’t have any call that sounds any better than that wingbone, and I don’t leave home without it.

Growing up my dad would make these using a balloon as the reed on the film canister.

Yup we know a few fellas who use a pill bottle over a film canister - might be easier to find those these days!

I love calling turkeys with homemade calls. I’ve made wing bones and striker calls with turtle shells and corn cob strikers. One of my favorites is a turtle shell call I made with a copper striker plate that has a really raspy sound. Have you tried these calls with multiple pieces of latex and trimmed notches to alter the sound?
