Fantastic, thank you so much. Particularly like that you show how to do it at no added cost with the DIY stitch guide and a push-pin! I've been struggling to find the right TN inserts (recycled paper, the right quality etc. etc.) so this tutorial makes me much more likely to stick with TNs since I can make my own!

I made two in December 2022 using the staple method you showed years ago...lol. I am addicted. Will try this method too. Thank you 🙂

The covers are so pretty! I make all of my TNs myself, but I add cover last - I prefer working in a decomposed (um) notebook, so I can stamp or adhere easily.

That’s definitely one way to make sure all those pages stay nice and flat while you’re working on them!

Thank you. This is what I plan to do with my new TN. I much prefer the idea of stitched inserts vs. stapled. Except the Memory Keepers tool, which I found so useless I tossed mine! (I do a lot of bookbinding.)
@dearlydee
@dearlydee 2 жыл бұрын
I much prefer the stitching over staples too, it is much more stable. I'm sure if you're doing a lot of bookbinding, you'll have your own tricks and tools for stitching but for a beginner like me, I found their tool quite helpful!

Thanks for posting this video! I’ve had this tool for a while now and just haven’t gotten around to trying it. Now I know exactly how to use it without having to figure it out on my own!

There are a bunch of other, more complicated, ways of using it too but I honestly haven't tried any. This is the only way I do it now!

Thank you for the updated video Diane. I have made quite a few TNs following your original staple method and have used many different papers for the inserts. I can't wait to try this newer (stronger) stitched method 💕
@dearlydee
@dearlydee 2 жыл бұрын
I honestly haven't stapled one in years! I always ended up having to stitch them together in the end after the staples broke the paper! So I figured I would cut out the middle man! It doesn't really take that much longer for a much stronger result.

So pretty and so easy! For One Little Word this year I’ve been using the big TN (6x8.25) from Ali (it has additional prompts but I’ve just covered up most of them). I love the format far more than a binder and will do it again but I’m thinking making my own TN will be perfect. Not sure I’ll take the class again, depends on the price. I prefer Ali’s teaching style so it also depends on who’s teaching.
@dearlydee

I have struggled with so many prompts not really being useful in an album this year. You're only limited by the size of the paper you can get a hold of when you make your own but you could very easily make your own 6x8.25!

Thoroughly enjoyed this refresher video. O dear! you made me buy the Bookbinding guide tool. Travellers notebooks tend to be a bit pricy here (UK) as I am sure for you too, therefore it's a must, right? lol lol Can't wait for it to arrive, then I can make a start on making my own notebooks. Thank you for the video x

Thanks for this! It looks so good!! Can't wait to try it myself! Can I ask, if you have any ideas (other than to put it to recycle) what you do with the leftover strips of paper from trimming the A4 sheet? If I could find a use for it, that'd be awesome!! Thanks again!
@dearlydee

You can always make the notebooks full size if you don't like the waste. Otherwise you can keep the scraps and use them the same way you'd use any other paper scraps! Maybe paper punch them, use them for stamping masks, or make a tiny little notebook with them!

Hi, loved the video, just found you today, I know this is an older you tube, you didn't mention how wide your spine template would need to be?
@dearlydee
@dearlydee Жыл бұрын
Hi there! The width of the paper template doesn't matter, you only need to be able to fold it in half. I just used a paper scrap I had on hand rather than cutting anything specifically.

Thank you so much for sharing this! Do you have an x-acto knife you recommend for this as well as a type of paper that doesn't bleed or ghost with gel pens?
@dearlydee
@dearlydee 2 жыл бұрын
Not really. I use the same craft knife I took from my Dad's toolbox more than 20 years ago. I would suggest finding one you're comfortable holding and using and always making sure your blade is sharp. As for paper, the beauty of this is you can always try and add your favourites. Ghosting isn't really something I worry about so I couldn't recommend. The paper I use is in the description box.

Thanks for this. Does it work as well without the wax?
@dearlydee
@dearlydee 2 жыл бұрын
Not as well, no, but it still works. Just be gentle pulling the thread through as it can be a bit rougher on the holes and tear a little more. I definitely recommend wax of some sort.
