I highly recommend just reapplying new thermal paste as this will prevent yellow light of death by keeping both the cpu and gpu temperature nice and cool. Of course physically cleaning out the system too will help also. My PS3 temperatures stay around 50 to 53 degrees. Doing these two things will do the job, trust me!

That "fan cleaning" mode is actually a "fan testing" mode. It may clear a tiny bit of dust, but it also forces the system to possibly over-heat and could maybe damage small components. Personally, I don't use it; however, I get 4 of square/rectangle pieces of rubber and put them under each corner if the PS3 to keep it cool and running smoothly. ;)

First, message don't take up "memory" as mentioned, they take up space. Storage space. Big difference. As such I see no reason why taking up hard drive space would slow down game play. Also true of Internet cache. Deleting people you don't play with should not slow down play either. If they are not online, no data is being sent because of them. They take up hard drive space. Think of it like this, when your drawer is full of stuff it becomes hard to open and you can't always find what you want because all the other stuff is in the way, this applies to hard drives too. Your friend's data and your messages are stored on your hardrive.

Bruh....., Storage space is memories!! That's what pulls up all your downloads/msgs/game scores/etc.! Without memories you would have to set up everything over and over every time you turn on the system ! Think of your brain, if there's no space in there you won't be able to remember (unless it's factory defect from birth or drugs) but if you have too much going on in there(stress) then over time it's starts lagging making you slow down longer to remember!

You should also take a pair of tweezers and or needle to gently pull the dust clods from the side vents underneathe and in back of the system and then run the secret menu and run restore file system... Running this at least 1 tym a munth keeps my ps3 running like new... to get to the secret menu you have to turn your system off then press the power button and don't let go till the system turns on then keep holding the power button don't let go of it until the system fully turns on it will beep and turn the system off now you can let go and press and hold the button again one more time and it will beep once then a second later will beep twice that's when you let go and the system will turn on and take you to a secret menu you must plug in a USB controller and go to restore file system click on this and click yes let it run it only take a few minutes maybe 10-15 minutes at most and after that you're good to go ..... Hope this helps more.

I hope you people know Sony strongly advises against external fans and the fan test. If it breaks due to one of those their not held responsible. Which means your out a warranty. Just use a handheld vacuum and turn it on low to get dust out. Don't use compressed air either, it just blows the dust even deeper into the console. Q tips also work for getting dust out of hard to reach areas. Also if your fan is running on loud, which would probably be classified as stage 3 or stage 4, you may want to consider investing in a 19 inch blade fan instead of the standard 15 inch Sony implemented. You can find them cheap on Ebay for around $15.00. Best of luck PS3 users.

do a vacuum cleaning. if you have a ps3 slim unplug the power cable from the console and replug while eject is being hold. then you'll hear a sound which means the ps3 itself is cleaning. after that unplug and replug it. done... idk if its the solution

If you are experiencing any lag on your PS3 then this is what you should do something that he did not mention in this video. What you want to do is rebilled the database. Sometimes just doing that alone on your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 can make a slow and leggy PS3 feel like new again now for some people this may not work that could be something else wrong with the system but in most cases rebuilding the database always works. For PS3 you want to turn off the system then when turning back on the system you want to hold the power button down for 7 to 10 seconds until you hear a beep and then you’re going to continue holding it until the system shuts itself off then you’re going to do the same thing again you gonna turn the system back on you’re gonna hear one peep and then you’re going to hear two beeps then it’s going to go into safe mode then you’re going to want to connect your PS3 controller with a USB cord then you’re going to select a rebuild database it does Delete any saved data or games on your system. What this will do for you as it will fix things on your system that might be corrupted it’s basically like a defragment something that you do on your computer. It deletes temporary files that are saved in your system that you were unaware about. And D frag the drive. Deleting temporary files and cashed data. In most cases this will make your system run faster. Now there are a few other things you can do two to improve game play on the PS3 go under video settings lower the resolution from 1080p to 720p that will also improve frame rate and then you wanna turn deep colors completely off that will also help improve system performance. And then you want to go to the game settings I think that’s what it’s called and then the two things that are in there are you want to make sure those are completely off as well that will also help improve system performance I’ve done all of these things on my PS3 and it runs a lot smoother

Look. I know this is old but your best bet is to buy a few cans of air. Open it up and blow it out. If you confidant, take it apart and blast the parts individually. The fan gets dusty as the mojave wasteland so yeah. Also a good time to swap the harddrive.

vacuum cleaner creates static electricity, there is something else you can do its a device that stores air dont know the name of it but you can use it to pump air to tiers of cars bicycles etc etc use that and blow off the dust and all shit in the console I recommened to open the console and use it and then put it back together

The fan thing worked great. But you dont have to go to your messages and all that. Boot ps3 into safe mode by holding the power button till it beeps twice. Then do rebuild database and it deletes all the stuff clogging up your system

Vacuuming does nothing. I've tried this so many times. You have to actually take the case apart and use compressed air to really get the gunk out of those tiny nooks and crannies where it accumulates. Also, the fan mode doesn't fully push out the grime that builds up on it, which is another reason why you have to take the case off to clean it thoroughly.
