Thank you for dropping this; I use the adaptive limiter but I actually picked up a few great tips in this! The RMS for metering and where to aim generally, and also I was never sure how hard to push the limiter in terms of gain reduction happening! I remember Dan Worall saying “the first few dB is free” so I typically stop around 2; I might consider pushing up to 4 sometimes. For sure a case by case basis though. Also I wanted to add: I noticed the mastering assistant forces the threshold of the stereo output to -1dB. However, if you use the adaptive limiter AFTER the mastering assistant on your output chain, you can bypass this 🎉 you just set your threshold to -0.3 and just not add any gain and boom! 💥

Thank you so much! I had no idea. Though I did know to use two Adaptive Limiters in the mastering session but not in the mix. That really helps!

Thanks for your videos buddy. Informative, no waffling and I really didn't know about this technique so a massive thumbs up. It actually worked too. Previously I had used the mastering AI and it basically just changed the whole tone to a point where it lost the feeling of the track and replaced it with too much noise. Maybe I didn't do the mastering properly, but I much prefer this technique.

i used to have the identical sweater. now i know where it went to. thief! thief! haha. getting the mix to an audible level was always a issue for me. hours and hours of dicking around before i'd find something acceptable. the songs that i have on my YT channel...not a single one of them was even mastered. i plan to dig into them and fix that soon, thanks to all your help. actually, i've begun to master one of those songs recently, which will soon be loaded to the channel....called Since and for Eternity. Click on my icon to the left if you'd like to hear some of my stuff, unmastered as they are. the crazy thing is that the song that i had originally uploaded to my YT channel was recorded using my phone's audio. and then, once i zapped the audio into GB, i added more vocals using my laptop mic to record them with. (i was waiting on my new interface to arrive). it's here now, which enables me to use my monitors to listen with. hey thanks for all your help Colin. you can keep the sweater!

I for some reason don't have a Stereo Output in the mixer. I can see a Stereo Out to the left in the Inspector view but it's grey. Must be some setting that is wrong,
@mikeaustin1 Жыл бұрын
Could be a number of things, including version of Logic, Audio Setup, Driver issue, or even just needing a restart. I think what I would do is if re-starting doesn't cure it, to save as... another project title and see if that opens it up (or make a new blank project and transfer what you have from the current one). From there if not corrected, it's probably a porting issue in setup (check I/O assignments, make sure your audio device is sending to legit channels (i.e. box might have 8 channels and you're sending to Ch. 15/16 or some such), or make sure the "Mirroring" checkbox (Logic Pro-Settings-Audio-I/O Assignments) is unchecked, or else it'll try to send the outputs to the same channels (1/2) as you probably recorded with, making it "ineligible" for output - does it gray out the SO in other projects?
@sorenahlback Жыл бұрын
@@mikeaustin1 I think I found what's wrong. Most songs are made in GB and the Stereo Out for some reason have got the namne Mastertrack instead of Stereo Out. I was a bit confused I had both Master and Mastertrack channel but no Stereo Out.
@mikeaustin1 Жыл бұрын
@sorenahlback9904 Yeah, in Logic they've substituted "Stereo Out" for "Master Track" (GB still uses "Master" due to limited capability). My guess is if you just move the tracks to Logic the problem will be solved. Hope so, anyway!
@sorenahlback Жыл бұрын
@@mikeaustin1 I had already transferred all my files to Logic, but t I found a way to rename the button now that I knew what button should be Stereo Out. 😊👍 Thanks for the input! 👍

I have a problem when I mix and master with LUFS. My mix and master is at competitive volumes then it gets put on a streaming platform, and the song is normalized. Then when I change between my songs and others mine sound about 1 to 2 db quieter. It happens for every song I do no matter what mix and mastering process I do and I can’t figure out why. Not sure if this is something you know the answer to or not.
@skbeatsz4 ай бұрын
KZbin's preference is for your audio to be no louder than -14 LUFS, and they will normalize the audio, which can lead to undesired wonkiness. Try to get at least -13 or 14 LUFS in your daw /mastering

Can you show how to make it louder using a clipper and a limiter. One guy on KZbin said you can literally just put the compressor on clip
@psycowezel948 Жыл бұрын
I was wondering something. You said to set the limiter at -1 in your ultimate garageband now your say -.3. Is there a different reason between the limiters?
