I don't use the builtin, inline tasks method for most stuff, because the signal to noise ratio is too unfavourable with it. For serious use cases you'd just create a template note "todo" with all the relevant metadata in the frontmatter, explain the task in usual free-form manner as you would in every other note (which also means, images, tables, multi-line text looks better), and do the tracking of it all via dataview instead. The builtin tasks method is good for a separate view using the Tasks plugin, when you don't want to loose track of individual "sub-tasks" within todos (e.g. when a todo can multiple steps). And for "sub-tasks", I usually don't clutter them with inline metadata for better readability and focus. Just explaining my own, prefered style - I'm a pro Obsidian user over 3 years.

Thanks for sharing this! I must admit, I don't use Obsidian for my task and project management; I use other apps. However, many people rely on Obsidian for this purpose, each using different method and plugins, as wrote in your comment. The choice is dependent on your preferences!

Using command or control in my case, enter, to make a new task is an obsidian hack that most people still don't know about

Nice video, is it possible to sync due dated tasks to scheduled date automatically like with a cron job script?
@Marco_Mindstone6 ай бұрын
Thank you! :) I didn’t go much deeper on that since I don’t use Obsidian as task manager, so unfortunately I don’t have an answer to this question. If you play around it and find a solution, feel free to share the results here tho!

@@Marco_Mindstone I have been trying to find the solution for several days now. I actually use tasks along with day-planner plugin. I think for that automation to work is to use the templater along with Obsidian cron Job plugins, but I am still figuring it out. Actually obsidian can be a great task manager especially with plug-in like ticktick sync, so I actually see all my tasks in tick tick and also in obsidian if the scheduled and due dates are synced correctly. You can view tasks using queries in your daily notes and you can also time block tasks on daily planner timeline

@@AbdelrahmanAnany I personally use ClickUp and Morgen calendar for task and project management. But ye, you can use Obsidian pretty much for everything.

Hi and thanks again for an interesting video. I am searching for a more detailed query. Is it possible to include frontmatter information into a tasks query? So lets say I am having a meeting according a special Projekt A. Now I have a protokoll of that meeting, where I have written down some tasks In the project overview page I would like to have a query that shows all open tasks according only project A and not project B, C, ... Is that possible (in emojy format)? Second questins: It is great to have dependencies. But I didn't find a way to have a nice visual view of the relation between the task. Maybe a query view where the main task is on top and the dependent tasks are below the main task indented. And maybe "sub-sub-Tasks" are indented one step more. Any idea on that Thanks a lot

Thank you, Marco! :) Answer to first question: Let's suppose you have a note "Project A" and a note "Meeting - Project A", and you have tasks in both. To group up all the tasks related to Project A (so from both the notes "Project A" and "Meeting - Project A", you can simply write a query like this: ```tasks filter by function task.file.filename.includes("Project A") ``` Answer to second question: Unfortunately is not possible to create that kind of view with a query. It would be nice tho. However, I wouldn't use Obsidian as task manager if I know I have to work with dependencies; task/project manager apps are way better in this :) Cheers!

Nicely done. Easy to follow. Simple examples. Would love to see some more examples: tasks across vault in different notes; tasks by project(s) (either in specific folders or by tag(s)); tasks within a date range, and so on. I'm always interested in simplifying queries for at-a-glance needs. Cheers.

Thank you, Dan! Now that, thanks to Morgen, we have a great calendar integration, I think I will publish some videos about this in the future.

is it possible for a completed task to auto move do the bottom the the task list, like in Apple Notes? That way only tasks to be completed filter to the top of the list.
@Marco_Mindstone8 ай бұрын
Absolutely, it's possible. Just use the tasks query. Once a task is marked as "completed" in a query, it automatically shifts to the bottom of the tasks list. However, this action cannot be performed outside of a query.

Unfortunately, the plugin doesn't provide a Google Calendar integration.
