As long as the app is 'talking' to the Nest, i.e. it is connected to it, then the schedule should activate if it's showing in the app. Does the Nest adjust when you adjust it manually on the app? Is the room cold enough for the Nest to react?

You can only set the schedule for a minimum of 1 hour, not 30min intervals. To set a schedule for an hour at a time, follow the video. What you have to do is set the temperature for one hour at say 21deg and then an hour later, set it for 15deg (effectively turning it off). Does that make sense?

I understand that turning the nest to just below what the ambient room temperature would be without the heating switched on would deactivate it, but is there a specific need to set it to this temperature? Is it not a safer bet to just set the nest to the lowest possible temperature in order to get it to cut off when you want the heating off? For example; I am leaving for work tomorrow morning at 0400, so I set the nest schedule (after learning how from this video) to activate at 0300 (21 degrees) and go to 9 degrees at 0400 which is when I leave. My alarm is set for 0330 so the house should be moderately warm by the time I wake up. Was just wondering if there was a specific reason you set it 17 degrees instead of much lower to turn off the heating.
@charlieshooter5 жыл бұрын
Yes, what you said would work, and would ensure that it didn't come on. The reason I do it to 17deg is because my house doesn't drop below that easily....and if it does then I'm happy for it to come on, just to make sure the house isn't too cold.

Thanks for the videos. Sorry but this will be a bit long-winded. I have recently has a 3rd gen nest thermostat installed controlling a combi-boiler for heating and hot water. I have auto scheduler on. It is not connected to the Internet. It has supposedly been learning for 95 days now bit doesn’t automatically set the temperature up and down as per our preferences - we have been turning temp up and down at the same time everyday expecting it to then learn and do this itself. I noticed that every day at 18:15 it would set the temp to 10 degrees. I found that it had one schedule set which explained this. I removed this setting on the schedule thinking it would remove all future settings for this temp and time - but no, it seems I have to remove each one manually. I reset the auto schedule but it did not remove the setting for 10 degrees at 18:15. My questions are 1: why does the thermostat appear not to be learning? It has had 95 days in which to learn. And 2: surely I can set up an auto schedule for heating in the morning and evening for the foreseeable future and not have to do each day individually! Even if connected to the Internet it seems from your video that you still have to put all future settings in manually, albeit with copy and paste! Any insight into what is going on would be a great help. Thanks for a clear and concise video.
@charlieshooter5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for leaving the comment, and hopefully the videos have been going some way to helping you out. I would imagine the Nest would need to be connected to the internet to learn properly. It takes account of other things when learning, including the outside temperature, so I'm sure it would need to be connected! The auto scheduler, if left for a week or so, should set a full week schedule. If you want to alter thatbyou can, but you will need to do that for each day. Like you say, copying the one day and then pasting it to another would be easiest if you want every day to be the same. Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Hi mate and thank you for your videos on the Nest thermostat. Mine will be going in tomorrow when our new boiler is installed. I’m wondering if there is an easy to set a schedule that repeats on a 3 week cycle to suit my Mrs shift pattern? My hours are more normal so to speak and as with most couples I imagine, we have different heating requirements. My concern with the smart / learning function is that initially it may leave her cold when she gets up at 4:20 am for early turns, at least until it has done whatever learning it is capable of. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks S

Unfortunately you can only set it to a weekly schedule, so you would have to allow for that every week I suppose? You can set it to 'learn' at the start and if it isn't quite right, you can always tweak it yourself.

Hi Charlie! Thank you so much for the helpful videos. I’m a first time home owner and have inherited the Nest system and it is boggling my brain 🤣 this has probably been asked a million times before, but is it correct to think of the lower temperature you set it to as ‘off’ - I.e the system won’t be kicking on at all until it goes below the lower temp you set? I'm wondering whether it is in the best position maybe? It could be in a warm place,.so once that's warm it will turn off and won't warm the rest of the house. You could try moving it to a colder part of the house, or if that's not possible just turn the thermostat to a temperature you do feel warm at. There's no "right" temperature as we all feel the cold differently.

Is there a 'boost' function? Say your normal set temp was 21 till 22.00, but the odd time you want it to maintain that temp for another hour before dropping back down to the 'off' temp, can it be done without going into the schedule?
@charlieshooter5 жыл бұрын
There's not a 'boost' feature as such in the fact that it will not automatically turn itself down after an hour, but you can adjust the temperature at any time outside of the schedule and it will go back to normal at the next schedule point. I suppose what you could do is set the schedule to, say, 17deg at 22.00, then another at 17deg at 23.00 and another at 17deg at 0.00. What you ensure there is that no matter what you 'boost' the temperature to, on the next hour, it will go back to 17deg. Does that make sense?

@@charlieshooter Thanks, looks like they haven't made it easy, too focused on the 'AI' aspect of the product perhaps...

@KeithHepburn2 жыл бұрын
It seems simplistic. I'm going to play soon as the temp is dropping. It would be so much easier to be able to set times that you want the system to go off. So for example I set the temp to 21o at 7pm but I want the system to go off over night. I can't use the stay at home feature as I'm at home. I'd like to see an upgrade that just has on and off times.
@charlieshooter2 жыл бұрын
If you think of "on" as a high temperature like 21deg and "off" as a low temperature like 15deg that will work as you want it. Your house shouldn't drop below 15deg on its own (unless you have a window or door open) so the Nest won't fire the boiler at that temperature...so efrectively is "off".
@KeithHepburn2 жыл бұрын
@@charlieshooter Thanks. I Guess I'm old school. We have only just moved from a mechanical timer. Whilst we didn't have huge control over this it was simple. If the Nest is not set for a lower temperature in between it will stay at 18deg. So if you set it for 18deg at 1am, it won't drop below that until you set it to. So if at 4am you set it to 16deg it will drop to that temperature then.
