I left my new cocktail 1up that’s running retropie for a minute, my daughter started mashing buttons and now I have no sound, my screen is now sideways.. I tried a factory reset and made it worse.. following this video helped me set up the buttons again, (thanks!) but the quick menu is gone and still no sound and screen is sideways.. please help!!

I am a huge fan of the channel. I recently had a custom panel with a 6 button layout done for me via 99lives. Would this mapping scheme be ideal for games like Marvel vs Capcom? Or would the lack of 2 extra buttons (trigger buttons) be an issue?

I’m following these exact steps and the strangest thing happens - when I start playing a mame game, the controls of p2 get reconfigured automatically, deleting the select/hot key mapping and changing the east west north south buttons as well. Looking at the config logs it says only one controller mapping has been saved. I’m using emulation station/batocera 38

Followed your video good work. Just one think my configure input says I have one controller and not two. Both have there own usbs. So my arcade machine currently thinks both joysticks and one button is a keyboard and one unit. How do I get it to recognise its two joysticks and sets of buttons?

Those are there show haha. The kit I bought then had to customize because it wasn't good enough had those predrilled. They already had side holes drilled too and the start up top so I didn't need those and I felt using them as select or start would become a problem because they're easy to hit by accident with your body when playing. They're plugged into the encoder so they light up but they don't have a function assigned to them.

Coin buttons usually are the select buttons you would just map the select function for each to whichever button you want to utilize as the coin button.

Hey, I'm having a configuration issue with my arcade joystick and buttons. Whenever I boot up a game then exit back to the menu the controls for player 1 or player 2 get scrambled to where random buttons do different controls. I've been spending 3 days now trying to fix this issue. To get a better understanding of what the issue is there is a video on my KZbin channel explaining the issue.

Hey there You need the buttons to be mapped to the encoder for player 1 exactly the same way as player 2. Meaning each button goes into the port on the encoder the same way as the other players. If there’s any discrepancy then the controls get all blended together like what you’re describing. I’m going to do a video talking about this later today actually.

@@RetroGamingGuy this explains it, but for those who aren't sure, I think @rRetroPie Guy means the physical connection from the button to your encoder (ie usb encoder) should be the same for player 1, and for player 2. So if you physically plug the wires for say button "1" into the first slot of your player 1 usb encoder, for player 2, you should plug the wires in for button "1" into the first slot of the player 2 usb encoder and so on. Both encoders should be physically set up the same. I'm not sure why, as you can map, but everything I've read says to do this, so double check this if you're having problems.)

Interesting! I thought your type of joystick would have been mapped as analog and not a d-pad. Isn’t it an old fashioned analog stick? I’m building my cabinet now. I will have only one joystick and button set as it was on most cabinets of my youth. I guess the two player button will have to be set up in Mame then?

Yeah you'd think it would be analog but the way the mapping is setup on there it pulls the navigation from d pad first. I suppose this is because every controller has a d pad and the system is intended for controllers more so than arcade control decks. As for the 2 player button I'm not sure what you mean? Are you going to have a player 2 setup as well? If so you'd just map that the same way but separately so it registers as a second set of controls.

Yes, I’ll put in both physical 1- and 2-player buttons but only one joystick and player button set. This is how it was on nearly all arcade cabinets of my youth in the ‘80s. So it should hopefully be possible. I know that you can remapmap buttons directly in Mame and also I think in Retroarch as well so I guess there are many options. I’m away from my setup for a week so I haven’t been able to test it yet.

I was wondering why with some games if im playing 2 players, specifically fighting games, sometimes it'll jump to a retro arch screen or some type of configuration menu? have you ever had that issue? it's happened with a few Capcom games like SF3, SF15th Anniversary and FOF 94' on the Neo Geo. Thanks! That’s weird. I’ve had that happen with some controllers in the past but not with the arcade controls. The mapping should prevent that. Maybe for the games you have it happening on the default mapping has somehow changed. Do you know what buttons are causing the retroarch menu to pop up? It should be your hot key button and whatever you have setup as X. That’s not always the case but that’s whag bring up retroarch for me. My hot key is set to select which I don’t use for any games really other than inserting coins on arcade games.

My "X" Button is the same as yours on a 6 button layout, it's the middle button on the top row of 3 buttons ( where Medium Punch) would be if playing Street Fighter. I also have my Hot key set up as Select and exit my games by pressing both Select and Player 1 (start) button. It's so strange, it only happens with a handful of games which is annoying when playing them on 2 player mode and in the middle of an intense match.

But when I want to play a game, I get a short text 'your controller is not configurated' and I can't play any game... I don't know what to do and would kindly ask for any help on this problem. That's weird. Maybe it a compatibility issue with your buttons and joystick. I would reset input configs (I have a video on how to do this) and try again. If you just remap without clearing these your issue is likely to reoccur. Hoping that clearing it solves the problem. Retropie has be tough with random errors like this.

Hmmm the issue I have is 9 out of my 10 games work but some games don't recognise the arcade stick like Jurrasic Park or Aliens (shoot em ups) I need to try configure those games as I can shoot but not move the cursor

Assign the front buttons as your select function then since select is what you use on the arcade games to enter coins.

That's very strange strange. So you mapped your hot key button as select or a separate button from start? Maybe try flipping your mappings around. Assign start as your hot key and select as start. Sounds very weird but the issue itself is strange. That might do it.

Try an input config reset see if that wipes the issue out. Beyond that I would make sure the wiring is correct to your joysticks and button controls. You want each players wiring to be exactly the same or it will cause errors when you go to use them in games.

Hey man I remember your handle. Lifelong Eddie Guerrero fan here. That’s weird you’re experiencing that issue. I would recommend doing a configuration input reset then remap everything again. How many players on your control board ? I’d reset And first only map player 1. Test it out after a reboot and make sure that you aren’t experiencing that same issue again.

Haven’t run into that issue on my end ever but if you’d like I’d be happy to swap the card out for a fresh one. That way we could eliminate the possibility of it being a card issue. If it is that’ll resolve it if the issue persists with a fresh card then we know it’s got to be coming from something on your build/mod.

I haven't done anything game by game with saves. It generally will add the changes across the whole collection. I usually just go in make changes for each game as I don't necessarily want to save everything each time across the board. If you get kicked out to the command line you need a keyboard to get out. Type sudo reboot and enter. Not sure why you're getting kicked out to the command line though. You mean the terminal right? That's weird.

Ok thanks alot. The keyboard thin g though I tried to add it in retropie but it is added like a joystick type thing with just certain buttons mapped as a controller I think. So o do t have full access of the keyboard. Is there another way I'm supposed to add the keyboard so I xan actually use it to input commands? As well as a cordless mouse?. This is a very informative tutorial, however it does not help my situation. I have a 2 player Xarcade Joystick with only one USB connection, (not two separate Xarcade controllers each with their own usb) and I cannot configure player two to the same usb input as player one. I need to be able to remap the controls for both player 1 and player 2 using the same usb port. How do I do this?

Not sure if that's possible. I've never had a setup that only had the one. You could try going into retroarch and doing port 1 binds for player 1 then port 2 binds for player 2 but it may not be able tk separate them given the single usb connection.

It sounds like you might have a xin-mo controller. Google that and see if it matches what your hardware plugs into. In that case you also need to go into retroarch and configure it. It's kind of finnicky in retropie, batocera plays better with the xin-mo but I'm also finding a lot of the MAME titles I absolutely have to have will not run on batocera. But your stick will work way easier.

I’ve done that but once I’m in the game the controls don’t work Is this an easy fix?

3:30 skip options….how down any of the buttons you already configured, tried that, it’s not working, it’s stuck after right thumb….whatever the fuck that is, please help

Try rebooting and trying again. Do you have any other controllers configured?

@@RetroGamingGuy I bought a bartop off someone else and nothing is configured, it’s one big fucked up mess, I can’t get back to the menu after choosing a game, I have to keep switching off the power button to start again, I’ve decided to have a professional look at it, thanks for the reply anyway 👍🏻

@@MrGenedancingmachine gotcha. Probably would be good to reset all input configs and then you’d be able to map your controls from scratch. That’ll make your life so much easier.

What if Pi doesn't recognize the USB encoder? What's the fix?
