Love muffins!! Thank you for joining me today in my fun little tutorial on how to marl yarns. You can use this technique in a variety of knitted or crocheted patterns.
Today I'm demonstrating it in our Little Lola knitted cowl pattern.
This simple cowl is a great way to start knitting in the round! It is easily adjustable for length and width, so you can make it your own with minimal fuss. Marl it up with your choice of colors and make your friends jealous with your new knitting skills!

You are a lovely soul too dear Chandi. It is a pleasure watching you. Love you. I am from India. Would love to purchase your lovely yarns but I am scared the shipping will be too expensive. But the colours and texture of the yarns is so beautiful that i just cant keep away from it.

❤ I'm collecting patterns for post-eye surgery. I showed my surgeon your site and told her she could not mess up the surgery, or there would never be any new scarfs 🧣. Her husband is my specialist, and I make multiple scarves for her every year. I guess she never put my made-by-hand logo label with me until then. She changed my surgery from by hand to laser-assisted. 🤭

I am LOVING this pattern!! Super new beginner knitter and this thing is whipping up so fast! 😍 Word of the wise to any newbie: make sure you go slow and take the time to do that first row correct 😬 I messed mine up in one spot and it through the pattern off, not the end of the world, but next time I will be more careful so it’s correct as the next one will be a gift. Thank you Chandi for this great pattern!

Thank you for this lovely video. It's very comprehensive. Does this technique work the same when knitting sweaters in the round or should I add in the color a few stitches before the bor marker (helical knitting)?
@ExpressionFiberArts
@ExpressionFiberArts 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Amara, I don't think it'll make a difference where you add the new color. Both will have the same effect at the BOR or a few stitches before the BOR (like in helical knitting). I hope this answers your question. Have a wonderful day! 💕

Chandi, I can't thank you enough for your videos. I've gone from never holding knitting needles in my hands to hesitantly ready for a project in just a few weeks by watching you! I have a question about this one...What is the total yardage used for this project? If I were to only use 2 colors instead of 3, would I still need all 825 yards?

How do you guesstimate about how much yarn you’ll need for the long tail cast on?
@ExpressionFiberArts

I opt for about an inch of tail per stitch I would like to cast on. ❤️

Is there a way to do a piece with some rows marled with 2 strands and some rows with a single strand of yarn? Without it significantly widening the project at the rows that were done marling the yarn?

You could change the needle size but you'll most likely still be able to tell where the change happened. The fabric will also be thinner but if you use 2 strands of the same yarn you won't have marling but still the same thickness and width. I hope this makes sense and explains it. 🩵

@@ExpressionFiberArts that makes sense. I liked the differing textures I was getting…but as the rows progress, the wonky edges are pretty obvious where the marled rows are at at the sides. I’m way too far to start over, so maybe I’ll try to add a border or fringe afterwards to distract from the unevenness and I’ll do the double strand of one color the next time. Thanks so much!

If I wanted just a single color, would I still need to hold two strands, or could I get away with one strand of yarn only?

I would recommend holding it double or using a thicker weight of yarn. ❤️
