Great mix info Reid. One question: I see youre mastering it inside the full mixing session with all their trackouts. - Ive commonly seen mastering being recommended on a stereo or 2-track. Is there a reason you chose to do it in the mix? Just because you were already mixing it as well?

I was wondering as a beginner who just have ideas and know how to make beats on Ableton, I want to take my level higher and want to mix and master my own songs by myself instead of having need to take it to other people. As a beginner, what are the things you could recommend me practicing on? (Obviously will be watching your videos, lol). Also, would you mind sharing the list of devices or softwares/plugins that I will be needed to purchase? I make music mostly using my headphones, so would really appreciate your recommendation. Mastering/mixing your songs with your headphones isn't a good idea because your ears get tired over time and you won't be hearing the same thing as you were doing at the beginning. Unless you have super high quality headphones I really recommend you to buy mixing monitors for your studio your ears will thank you.

Tell me please should you master the finished AUDIO file or to master in the project? Does it have difference? I mean can this happen that when you master the finsihed AUDIO file then some instruments corrections might be needed like changing the volumes of some separate tracks? Or is it absolutely fine to master the finished AUDIO file like you do?

Mastering in your mix project doesn't make sense. First of all, you generally don't want to master your own songs, so when sending it over to an actual engineer you are not sendin them the mix project, you just send the rendered file. Secondly, yes, mixes can get dense and you get latency and cpu workload, therefore buffer, which means that what you are hearing is not what the actual rendering will be. Third, and MOST IMPORTANT: when mixing, sometimes (for me, most of the times) you are using plugins that don't do the same exact thing at every pass. For example, a good reverb will usually not sound always the same. This means that the mix will be different each time you play it, depending on your plugins. The extreme of this is if you use analog emulations exclusively - since one of the reasons you use them is because you don't want to hear the same thing twice. So, just don't master in your mix project.@@soundsfrombeyond89
