The kick upward compression

Sidechained to the kick, so when the kick hits, the gate expands (Pro G is a Gate/Expander, not just a gate). Think of it as a highly tweak-able transient shaper for the master. This is because when you mix and early mastering processing typically adds compression where you loose some punch. This is to effectively enhance/add back some of that punch.

Ozone 9 has some great stuff in their chain that fabfilter doesn’t, and vice versa. I use both, but ultimately ff pro l2 is the last thing on the chain.

Yeah, but u can't do this with normal mixing badroom producer, it would kill you dyanimcs and your whole mix. This one is clean because the stems are top notch production and well mixed so its easier to do this chain. But great tip !!

a bedroom producer could get high quality stems with a Splice account, and definitely use this and get amazing sounds

Or, use light clipping (standard clip, high oversampling) followed by TC Electronic MD4 set to one of its best presets (mdx music) with some EQ and multi-band compression set to taste followed by black box saturation followed by another very light clipping stage followed by elevate limiter set to multi-band, fully independent limiting and transient enhancement.

I completely disagree actually. The bypassed mix sounds very unprofessional, too unprocessed, like a raw mix in which there’s zero cohesion between the elements. The infinite ratio on the compressor might be excessive for the mastering chain but to be fair, this video is about mastering pop music in which loudness is way prioritized over dynamic range. Plus, the pro-g instances do help with maintaining some feeling of dynamic range even though it’s brick-walled
