want to build a concrete pond for catfish farming. need your help. please tell me if there are any important points to check before and when making concrete ponds.

The important points include: 1. Ensure that you use the recommended ratios of cement: sand: ballast 2. It is advisable to a water proofing compound (water proof cement) 3. VERY IMPORTANT: Cement contains lime which is highly alkaline. If you just fill the pond with water and put in fish once it is ready, all your fish WILL DIE. It is always preferable to try and neutralise the acid by filling with water and adding a weak acid such as vinegar. 4. If you must paint the pond/tank, never use ordinary paint. Use Chlorinated rubber paint or epoxy NB: What is the size of your proposed pond?

i have 2 ponds. 2 mts X 8 mts, and 1 small 2 mts X 2 mts. first i am trying to work only on small pond. planning to farm catfish and Tilapia. Can i farm 2 fishes in 1 pond.

Mohammed Abdul Zahoor Yes you can keep 2 types of fish in one pond. But this works well in large ponds, especially under semi-intensive conditions. In my view, you ponds seem to be too small for this. If you keep Tilapia and catfish in the same pond, you will have to be careful. If the catfish become much bigger in size than the Tilapia, the may end up feeding on them. Best feed for catfish will depend on your locality. But any feed containing between 30% - 35% crude protein is good enough.

yes is good but doesn't determine the PH of the water only the turbidity

Brother what should I do if it is over fertilized. Is there any medicine to reduce plankton? Or can lime be used?

Reduce feeding and replace water and introduce newer fish
