Thank you, that helped me with audio mixing for the band. Thanks! ~ Tom #BerlinBayBand

Thanks... but what is Amp0? Is it the peak amplitude? I don't quite get that...
@DrMartinArcher4 жыл бұрын
The units in audio files are dimensionless, so just go from -1 to 1 and it’s not possible to have a larger amplitude than this (instead we say the waveform is clipping). The dB measure just uses the dimensionless units, so using the formula a logarithm of 1 gives 0dB which as you say corresponds to the peak possible amplitude. Hope that helps.

Hi Martin, how would someone pre-set RMS ideally pre recording and, restrict between two numbers post recording in audacity?
@DrMartinArcher4 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by restrict between two numbers, RMS is necessarily plus and minus the same amount. However, if you measure the RMS of your audio you can then reduce the volume to by some factor of the RMS to set it to whatever value you want. If, however, you're talking about trying to remove quiet periods then look into the Noise Gate in the effects.

Is the Power(dB) formula at the end to measure how loud the sound is (in dB)?

Karma Vin yep

@@DrMartinArcher as in Sound Power Level? And not Sound Pressure level?
@DrMartinArcher4 жыл бұрын
Karma Vin they are both essentially the same but with different reference values (ie zero levels). In an audio file you can’t really get an absolute sound pressure level because it depends on what volume you set the speaker at, so really it’s all relative.

@@DrMartinArcher im sorry if im being confusing.. I need a way to measure/calculate for Sound Power Level for a project.. I just wanna know if the one you showed in your video is it.

@@DrMartinArcher is there a method to find/caluclate for Sound Power Level using audacity?
