There are several aspects that make the measurements in this video unreliable: Measurement of the sample material should take place on a flat sample surface supported by a flat rigid surface. Measurement should be performed in the middle of and perpendicular to a sample surface diameter of 12mm or above. Sample thickness should be 6mm or more. The duration of each measurement may be of importance as well, depending on the sample material. It is recommended to perform a multitude of measurements and calculate the average value.

thank you for all the useful infos. I did all as you reccomended and I was wondering: when the tip of the durometer first touches the material the hardenss I am measuring starts at about 77-78 ShA then drops about 3 points after 3 seconds and settles at about 74-75 ShA. Is 3-4 seconds measuring good enough? is the value of the hardness the very first value or the ones after settlling time? thank you

@@AA-fb9yc the settled value is the value you should use. The indentation time depends a lot on the sample material. Repeat the measurement of 4-5 seconds a few times and see what the average does. Try the same a few seconds longer and see if it changes the average. Not all materials have a consistent hardness/softness, which is tackled by the multitude of measurements on a few locations on the material. I forgot to mention temperature as a factor as well. Room temperature is recommended, but you can also see what temperatures do to the hardness if you need.

Please make sure that the presser foot is completely flush with the surface of the specimen or the measuring results would be incorrect.

Not only that, but your pressure point must be a distance away from the material edge. ~ 12mm I believe

Material thickness is also important and Im guessing the over molded handle material on the Ryobi is too thin
