The addition of the adapter to go from BNC to SMA on the first antenna adds other factors to the equation. One, the adapter lengthens the antenna by 3/4 inch, thereby changing the antenna's resonant length. Two, the adapter introduces loss into the RF path. You have to take these factors into consideration when making precise measurements.

I have both the Nagoya and HYS 1/4 wave antennas and they both make a huge difference.

Nice circles and lines... but could we have a results recap with top list ?? I still don't know which ones are better cause I didn't know I need to write on paper the numbers !!! Also, you may cut the screen with multiple tests at the same time to shorter the video ; my beer is hold now !!

Interesting test and you spend much effort. Some results are astonishing though, esp. for the Nagoyas which are known to perform quite well normally. Did you calibrate your NanoVNA properly directly before the measurement? Also the ground plane seems to be too large for real life comparison - most antennas are optimized for handheld function without such a groundplane so this might bring in some bias. Also as other mentioned the adapter you use will bias the performance. Some SWR are 3..5 or even higher! And characteristic impedance varies from 30...150 Ohm which is far off the typical 50 ohm. I think this test needs an update with optimized conditions and a final result summary with some comments 🙂

Nice setup with good counterpose/earth plane you have there. However, for the smaller antennas the counterpose may be too large, compared to a handheld radio (where they are supposed to be used, with the dipole-principle in mind). I wonder how the small Diamond 805 would measure if you connected it directly to the VNA, w/o the counterpose rig. Just my 50 cents. Thank you for the effort measuring these antennas :)

Hi, telling me where the antenna had a 1.0 Swr does not help me I needed to know the Swr on 145 and 433.

Salut, Merci pour ces test comparifs. ✌️ Il faudrait au préalable, mesurer la bonne longueur de câble coaxial permettant de reproduire la même impédance d'un bout à l'autre du coax. ( calculer pour une seule fréquence donnée) N'est-ce pas un multiple impaire de demie longueur d'onde pour la mise au point d'une antenne ? Ça permet d'avoir impédance à peu près exacte au bas de l'antenne sans trop la perturber. Vous me direz ce que vous en pensez ? Merci Après, qd l'antenne est collée au pocket, il y a certainement le petit plan de masse à prendre en compte ? Mais tout ça peut déjà donner une idée de comparaison de ttes ces antennes. 😉 Merci, en l'attente de votre, ou d'une réponse. Salutations 😉

Fake Diamond 805 . Fake Nagoya 771, ... ”Probably”clones? I have real ones from a professional store. There are visible differences next to the swr data.

I think the fake 805 works well on 70cm with SWR at 2.66, the difference is that the real ones also work on 2m while rhe fake one in the vid simply doesnt response and has SWR of 80 which can fry the radio itself.

That fake stubby diamond with SWR 2.66 on 420mhz, will it damage the radio itself?

One of the excel documents pulled up early in this video indicates a roughly 20% loss with that SWR. I'm not sure what it takes to damage a transceiver.
