There’s more that had 2D in live action. Ghostbusters 2016 (When the ghost from the iconic logo animated itself into a 2D cute character) Who framed Roger Rabbit (Toontown and every cartoon in there) The first SpongeBob Movie (When all the marine life comes back to life) Ralph Breaks the Internet (there’s some 2D in it as well) Pixar’s Soul (The Jerrys and Terry) The Mitchells vs the Machines (Katie’s Katie-Vision) ArtSpear Entertainment (when Joe and Rita used their 2D characters on their own live-action background) WandaVision (When the opening logo from the first episode turned from 3D to 2D) Loki (Miss Minutes, the Cartoon Clock)

Rotoscoping helped in the whole handkerchief thing in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It’s an old technique that’s kind of messy but the movie pretty much mastered it

When I draw live action animation hybrids, I used crayons as real human beings and real objects because it's like crayons can make real people, and then I used markers or colored pens and pencils to make the 2D characters. I thought of making live action animation hybrids into live action animation hybrid anime, because I don't think they use anime for live action animation hybrids. So I thought of making my own live action animation hybrids by using anime as 2D characters.

Instead of importing a image sequence you can just import an mp4 or a flv into flash and then export the swf of the effects and import it into AE. It would definitely take less time than doing all that moving around.
@HowardWimshurst7 жыл бұрын
i tried it once and i didn't like how flash handled it but that was cs5 (which was a terrible update) maybe by now they have made importing mp4 files better
@frankyofl7 жыл бұрын
Oh god yes, it used to be a nightmare, now its better and doesnt lose any frames or makes the file that much slow. probably a 10% drop in playback speed but that depends on your computer.
@Resokisi7 жыл бұрын
Howard, on 4:18 you inverted a video clip into a picture sequence and you used the jpeg format, because it works faster and takes less space, but if you use for example H.260, will it be imported into a picture sequence as well? Or is it different? The thing is, that if I want to cut a video in adobe premiere pro, should i cut the video first, to convert it in After effects next, for flash effects? In which order should I work? Can flash handle a newly cut, finished video for adding effects?
@coreyclark206 жыл бұрын
So say I only have Adobe Flash Photoshop paint.net how can I use that to get the same effect as in, how exactly would I separate each scene from a premade video with these tools ?

Nice tutorial, but I have a question. Say I'm doing the thing where I take an irl video and add 2D animated characters, what if one if them walks behind something the camera can't see the other side of (for example a wall), do I draw the picture then erase parts to make it look like their going behind the wall or do I put the wall on a different layer?
@HowardWimshurst6 жыл бұрын
in the rough stage of animation i would draw them on the other side of the wall, but it doesn't need to look nice, no one will see it - it is just for you to keep a bearing of what is happening with the character. Then do a second pass/ cleanup where there is no drawing behind the wall. That would be my approach
@JimPAnimation6 жыл бұрын
Now a days with many software you can animate a character and then use masks to put the live action back on top of parts of the animation.

I have a question. I love this video, But the Reading I watched it was because I’m struggling with an artistic choice for my shortfilm. I want to add 2D drawn eyes on live action footage and my teachers are telling me to use trackers so I can put the animation on the trackers. But I’m wondering what would be more work... I’ve never done anything like using trackers in video but I have done frame by frame animation. What do you think would be most interesting to do?
