Sm81 works great for this. I’ve started using a single ribbon mic love the warmth it gives to my acoustics.

been doinga mic shootourt and loving the JZ V11 pointed at the 12th fret. super open and like a ribbon but with that top end sparkle of an ldc, special.

years ago i got a few wilkinson audio sm57 mic clips, one has a SDC diameter clip, the other a room mic diameter clip, fun to mix them together. still using your lower body location technique and still love it.

KM 84 on the body. C12A On the 12th fret. Always a winning combination.

I’m confused . So what microphones do you recommend and what’s the 2nd ? This video seems cut short

My assumption would be the standard "57 pointing at the 12th fret" technique

He typically uses a single small diaphragm condenser (Neumann KM56) pointed at either the body (where he pointed in the video) or pointed at the neck towards the 12-14th frets. He will sometimes use a large diaphragm condenser pointed in either of the two areas mentioned above. In rare circumstances when he wants stereo he will use either two small diaphragm mics, two large diaphragm mics, or a combo of 1 small diaphragm and 1 large diaphragm. One pointed towards the neck (12-14th frets) or the lower part of the body as mentioned above. The 2nd mic will be pointed towards the bridge or the body beyond the bridge.

There are many good videos on acoustic guitar. On YT see "Learn How to Mic Acoustic Guitars with Jacquire King" from Universal Audio as an example for different styles of music etc.

Missing his point. Could be any microphone, but the way a SDC mic works, in his opinion, suits the acoustic guitar best. Technique matters more than the gear

Any advice for live sound for guitars no pickup?

Hi ! I personally like the sound of the bartlett guitar mic, decent sound and very good isolation. Schertler dyn g p48 is quite good as well but a little harder to fix and more expensive. If you don't mind less isolation, DPA 4099 has a very good sound, but is way more expensive !

I've always found recording acoustic guitar really easy to do. 🤷 But since I went from tape to digital earlier this year, finally, I'm having trouble getting a good bass guitar mix for some reason.

Transformerless SM57 pointed were the neck meets the body away from the bass end of the guitar unless it’s a pure acoustic performance….

Maybe he adds another mic or he treates it with something special in the mix
