She is half black and her hair is somewhere between mine and Dad's as far as curl tightness goes. The Denman brush is so helpful !! Thank you again!

At least theArmy is now excepting the natural. they didn't back in 03 when i was deployed and in transition. i permed my damn hair so much. that when i got out i just trasitioned again. sadly i really did not stop perming until 2013 because i was not accepting myself . literally 5 years after and the big chop i was relieved and felt wonderful. keep doing you and take care of your hair because the desert is brutal on hair and the helmets are worst.

I hope you are able to find a way for new recruits or officers , who are also naturals, to see how you did the bun. I didn't know you used a donut shaper. Also didn't know the style had to be re-done everyday - esp. if the hair was freshly washed.Thanks for using products that are commonly found.Always interested in videos..

Do you think it’s better to do a bun everyday? I’ve been in for 3 years and I’ve been doing only 1 bun for the whole week and I’ll “refresh it with more gel every night , but honestly when I wash my hair on fridays there’s nothing but clumps of gel that come out along with some breakage . Just asking what option would be better

Girl, struggle precisely. I recommend changing it up every week and do on and off protective styling (twists/braids) so you are manipulating and tugging on your hair so often. Pulling it in a bun all the time can even distort your curl pattern as mine got extremely lose in the front because I did a bum everyday. If excess product is a concern, I recommend using a cowash in your hair mid week. Very quick process and removed product build up! Hope this helps.
