you want to select the closest stratum server to you, if the server is down for whatever reason it will default over to another sever. FI was in red so was not currently available, so rather than you losing connection it defaulted over to EU

Exactly, the flag will show the stratum that's accepting shares. FI is currently down for at least until tomorrow so EU was the stratum when FI was selected.
