I used ICI 2K paint in the late 70s early 80s before basecoat and clear became the norm, solid colours were okay to spray but the metallics were a nightmare trying to not get tram lines and blotches, you literally had to go over and over the panels trying to get it to flow out and get the metallics sitting properly 🥵🤬. By good luck there wasn’t to many metallic paint finishes in them days. I don’t know what single stage paint is like nowadays I’m not in the trade anymore, I suppose it will be a lot lot cheaper than water base and clear coat so would be okay for someone wanting a cheaper respray , anyway keep up the good work,I really admire how you can turn out the jobs you do without a spray booth, although I think some painters that work in spray booths think they can get of with less cleaning and wiping panels, but really you have to be just as thorough as you are in your garage. 👍🏴

Interesting color choice for a filing cabinet I like how you think I do wonder why not turn the tip 45 degrees and paint up and down rather than side to side since it's so narrow. Seems like you'd do more work and waste more paint since you come off the edge so many more times. I'm not a painter so I really am wondering if there is a reason

So you're not washing up your gun between coats. I thought with the hardener it was set up kind of like Bondo and you would have to mix a new batch for each coat. If you can tell I'm really not that familiar with automotive paint. So how long is you working time or how many coats can you get before you start having problems?

You don't mean "BURN up quick" You mean it will FADE from the sun faster ? Right. That's why single stage is best with solid colors. Metallics float in the paint , and the closest metallic flakes near the surface will rust after some wear from washing and sun exposure.( Burn up ) If you had base clear the clear is the layer of protection.

I have the same question. I liked and subscribed to ask this same question and scrolled through first. So I'm thinking that in temperatures above 80* we would want to use a medium reducer to avoid orange peeling, but especially in temps above 95* like his area in the summers... a slow reducer is necessary for even single-stage paint that is pre-thinned. However, even knowing this much... it doesn't answer the question of the term, "burning up the paint" in high temperatures. Did you ever find an answer somewhere else?
