Coco Coir Blocks are a convenient, compressed 100% Coconut Coir soil that expands to roughly 7 times its packaged size simply by adding water. The Expanding Soil holds water and nutrients, making moisture available for the roots to use as they begin to dry out, which also reduces how often you need water.
◾ Retains Water and Easy to Re-Hydrate
◾ Expands up to 2.25 Cubic Feet
◾ Lasts up to 2 years
◾ Quickly Expands with Water
◾ 100% Renewable and Sustainable Coconut Coir instead of Peat Moss
◾ Works wonderfully as a hydroponic soil medium
◾ pH neutral and safe to grow food in
◾ Premium grade and washed
◾ Improves Aeration and Drainage
◾ Sterile growing medium to prevent damping off when starting seedlings

One step you may be able to cut out if you consistently use the same mixing container: after you fill it up, mark your water line with a permanent marker so that way you don't have to pull out the 5-gallon bucket each time!

How do you store the rest of the coco coir? Do you cover your tote or leave the lid off? Does it dry out or mould?

I've been wondering the same. I've just been leaving the lid semi on to allow airflow in to dry it out if I'm not using it but I'm using a small container since I'm just starting out. I wonder how we store it in the 20 gallon. I hope he sees this comment.

I love your inspiring video. I'm just starting microgreens as a hobby. You always recommend Ocean Magic Sea Minerals! Did you ever though about adding these minerals right now when you mix the Coco Coir? Afterwards you might only add clear water to the trays. What do you think about this idea?

Does anyone know offhand how long rehydrated cococoir lasts in storage? I am an apartment grower - I made a huge batch and it sat in a tub with lid for two months or so - I noticed my last few crops of buckwheat are struggling. Does cococoir rehydrated have a shelf life?

Love the video and your content generally speaking. I was wondering, though... if you mix up a bunch of coir, do you have to use it all at once or are you risking mold issues. Do you have to use all the coir that you hydrate at once?

Is this kind or coco coir is clean and no salt? I mean, do I need to rinse it to reduce salts or just ready to use? I live in Maui island in Hawaii, unfortunately, out of stock now in our city Walmart and I need to buy it online from Walmart with an extra shipping fees, it will cost me about $26.6 for each block with shipping. Any suggestions, please?

I see some people having mold issues with using cocoa coir by itself. I had the same issues when growing marijuana. My pots would be wet for up to a week, when ideally, you want to be watering marijuana every other day. I use a 1:1:1 of coca coir, vermiculite, and perlite. That seemed to help with evaporation. You ever mix the cocoa coir with anything?

We actually touch on this in almost all of our other microgreen videos. Give them a shot! Anti-Fungal: 2Tbsp of 3% H2O2 to about 1000ml of water Link: t.ly/G6NO Nutrient Water: 0.5oz Ocean Nutrients for every 1Gal of water Link: t.ly/xd03 To mix the coco coir itself, we just use regular water. We goal is to give it just enough moisture to expand.

The Coco makes my greens taste bad. Beautiful germination compared to the promix I use. I can't put my finger on what it makes my greens taste like but I've been growing since March and there is definitely a difference. I will maybe mix some Coco with the promix and experiment more to see if I can have the best of both worlds. Maybe I got a bad block. I have another so I'll try again. Any recommendations or ideas as to why my greens may taste slightly bad? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for such valuable info! I just started testing with this Coco you use. It seemed to be an issue for the roots to make down. I am seeing some wilting of the plants. The CoCo are moist so I'm not sure if you have had this issue and what is a good solution?

@@PhiNguyen-un5iz how do they grow in comparison to my video times? Soil works great, we just prefer to use as close to water/seed as possible. It’s more of an organic moral code for us. You also don’t wash microgreens, so I don’t like to eat them when they’ve been in chemical enriched soils. It’s probably all in my head, but it’s my personal belief. I’m not quite sure about the wilting without seeing pictures or your setup, but for the roots, I’d make sure you don’t use more than 1/2” of coir (MAX) and don’t pack it down too tight. I usually keep the coir extremely moist at all times. The only time we see wilting is from lack of water in our experiences.

It's June 1. 2021, and I just watched your video here on mixing coco coir blocks. I recently bought an 11 pound block of this from a local nursery for $15. The block has 4 sections so I split off one section and added the right amount of water. It's been sitting in the water for over 4 hours and I had to tear it apart, but it's still in pieces. It never got "fluffy." It looks like wet pieces of cardboard in the water. I think this stuff must be petrified coconut coir. I then looked for it on Walmarts website, and there wasn't any "Expert Coconut Coir" listed for sale. The prices were astronomical for the coconut coir they were selling. Did you ever encounter an issue where the coconut coir will not absorb water and fluff up? Thanks!
@PrincetonMicrogreens
@PrincetonMicrogreens 3 жыл бұрын
The 11lb blocks usually require a lot more water for sure. I like to use hot water and let it sit in the container, and then break it up and mix it up, then let it absorb more water. For an 11lb block I use 7-8 Gallons of water. As far as the Walmart Coir is concerned, we buy: www.walmart.com/ip/Expert-Gardener-Organics-2-25-Cu-Ft-Expanding-Soil-Concentrated-Potting-Mix/926142788 ...but unfortunately it is out of stock at the moment.
