Those boxes are cheaper than the tubs I think @USG only sell the plastic cartons to make life difficult in the northeast of USA. Can we get an option to buy both please…
@BarryWeaver-pv6cz4 күн бұрын
@@mathman0101 Yeah but the free buckets come in handy....When I saw all the boxes i thought she had powder. Never seen it in boxes in the northeast! (except for powdered variety)

Yes! I love the blue mud it's much easier to sand than the green buckets. Sometimes I work right out of the bucket but I do usually add a bit of water to make it easier. But the amount of water you added gave me some anxiety! Try applying that mud to the ceiling from a hawk your gonna be dropping it all over your face🤣!! And the floor. But I think for smaller areas or just on tape lines on walls it might work. Thanks for the video. I'm in the middle of restoring an old house with horse hair plaster that's falling out of the latts. I knocked out all the loose stuff and I'm patching in sheet rock then using hard durabond in between the cracks, then mesh taping over cracks then 3 coats of blue joint compound! Going to try mixing it out of the bucket this time.

I love these videos. I just wished I’d seen them before I finished my living room. They are a little hard to watch tho the way the camera moves up and down so much. It would probably be easier to not stay zoomed in all the time and just cover the entire scene. Just an observation. Thanks so much for doing these.

Great video. I’m guessing you generally use all purpose to tape? Or do you use Plus 3 for it? Ive heard all purpose is better for taping because it has more glue :)

i have a domestic well (and no filtration yet). i get probably a tsp of fine black sand in the water for every 5 gallons or so of water pumped out. is using this quality of water a problem with drywall mud? thanks dwshorty! always something to learn from the videos you’re putting out.
@DrywallShorty Жыл бұрын
It could definitely cause trash lines in your mud - that’s when your pulling your mud and you get a big line down it from a piece of trash/dirt/dried mud etc.. If you can I would try and filter the sand out of the water but you can always try and see if the sand is large enough to cause problems. It might be fine enough to not do anything at all.

I do drywall finishing only very occasionally so I do it all with hand tools and I am sure that there are may tricks I don't know, but I can't imagine using the thinned compound without wearing more than I get on the wall, yet alone on a ceiling. The compound right out of the box looks about right to me.

So are you telling me ,it's not ready to put on wall right out the box/bag. I've been scooping it out and straight to the wall

Can you do much smaller batches? I just need to mud a drywall return window or other small projects at a time? Can a first timer get a decent skim coat rolling on with a roller and coming back over it with a 24 or 32 inch drywall blade?
@Trentm311 Жыл бұрын
@v boutique check out more videos in her channel she is very knowledgeable and has some great tips. She also has videos on mixing smaller batches of mud for small jobs.
@DrywallShorty Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! You can mix half a box, mix just a pan worth with a pan mixer, mix a whole box and then cover with water for a later use. USG also makes some smaller pails of compound that are good for small patches. You can get one of those, add some water and mix with a small pan mixer to get good results. For the skimming I would absolutely recommend a skimming blade. You can roll the mud on then wipe down with the skimming blade and get really good results!

Fill your pan halfway, add a little water and mix with your 4 or 6" knife right in the pan!!!
@Rob_17768 ай бұрын
@ronduckett5017 Yes that does work, for sure! I also use a blade from an old beater we had that burned up! And a hand drill in the pan! Which is also good for hot mud in small batches.

USG has submittal sheets on their website with the amount of coverage with every variety of compound. This one, USG Plus Three has Approximately 9.4 gal./1,000 sq. ft. (38.3 L/100 sq. m) of gypsum panels per the submittal sheet.

Avoid lite muds if you can. What makes it “light” is because it has a lot more air in it.
