@mrgreene3290 Yes! Thanks. It's best to when working with any kind of particulate matter, especially pigments, to wear a NIOSH approved mask. Even if the material itself isn't toxic, the particles can harm your respiratory system over time.

Yes! Since Joy used Gum Arabic as the binder, it would work well as a watercolor & should re-wet nicely. However, for consistency in washes you might need to use a paint muller (also called a pestle) to really incorporate the pigment to the binder. For calligraphy ink, you wouldn't have to do this since it's a smaller area of application. Jacquard has not officially recommended using Pearl Ex Pigments with rubbing alcohol; however, I was able to find several instances on the internet of other artists using the Pearl Ex Pigments with rubbing alcohol without issue. I would recommend that you use caution when using a material like this outside of its approved uses.

I bought a bunch of metallic acrylic from Jacquart, and I would like to know if it was possible to use it with a calligraphy pen with the same method ?

Sorry it's taken us a year to get back to you Moni. The metallic acrylic fabric paints you purchased from Jacquard cannot be used with gum arabic like Pearl Ex pigment. Acrylic inks can be used in calligraphy pens, but to get the consistency of your Jacquard acrylic paints thin enough, you would have to heavily thin them, which might be more time-consuming than purchasing acrylic ink. There are several videos on the internet on thinning acrylic paint to create a more fluid acrylic ink. If you use acrylic ink in your calligraphy pen, you should clean it after each use with pen cleaner before the acrylic dries in the nib.

Pearl Ex pigments can be mixed with any clear medium to use over any surface. For example, you can mix Pearl Ex with a varnish, acrylic, or solvent-based medium as a coating over clay, wood, or paper. You might want to use an acrylic medium since you plan to use the pigment on canvas. Pearl Ex pigments can be sealed on the surface with spray lacquer.
