So far none of the producers demo tracks used in their tutorials on mixing 808's have inspired much confidence in making good music. UNTIL YOURS. Finally someone get that the song should also be something you wanna bump. Not just a technical formality or obligation required to demonstrate their work flow. Cheers man, that track is fire.

this is 7 years late. But I got a question, just for backround im a independent artist trying to learn how to mix my own tracks, the question I had was instead of the r bass for the bass sub, could you put an exciter, put it on 60 hz then roll off the high end with an eq? Would consider that the second best option if you don't have R bass or are unable to require it? Such a late comment, but thanks for this video anyway you've helped me alot.

it would be good if you did a track from start to finish. showing the process from start to finish. even the guy rapping to the woman or guy doing the chorus. to how you mixed the whole thing together AND mastered it at the end. that would be a cool video. instead of in bits with different tracks. cause how you do the effects on one beat wont work for another beat so to speak. it will really teach people a basic way of working. thanks greatly though for your love of doing this out of the kindness of your heart. God is great in you.

Hi!Why you have to send the kick signal to a bus first? Why can you not do the sidechaining in the sub bas compressor direktly with the kick?
@Prodpurist6 жыл бұрын
You can tell the producer put overdrive on that kick. I personally don't like this at all it makes the kick peaky and stings it hurts imo and takes the thickness out. Great video man been binge watching the whole weekend lol.

Have you ever put the kick in binaural mode and set it down the middle? Its still mono but it really creates clarity and punch on the kick. Set the angle at 0 and spread at 0 and you’ll see the pan nob turn green with a line straight down the middle meaning mono.
@SeanDivine5 жыл бұрын
right, if you're using a kick with stereo info that would be the same as setting the output to mono

Can someone answer me this question?: What do you do when you have two instruments or sounds in similar frequencies? Say a synth and a guitar? How do you get each to stand out and not sound like one mess? Do you just avoid sounds in similar ranges when choosing your sounds? I am having trouble letting everything sit in the mix with their distinct characteristics? Any recommendations for videos/ sources to help these kinds of problems?
@SeanDivine5 жыл бұрын
lots of ways to tackle this - first, it comes down to balance. which is the more important element? What do you want the listener to focus on? If the answer is both elements, sidechaining and / or EQing competing frequencies is the way to go. Otherwise, compress accordingly and then take advantage of leveling, panning and effects like reverb to adjust where the tracks are "sitting" in the mix

Hey Sean, just a question. Can't you just sidechain the bass from the kick channel directly instead of taking the signal from the bus?
@SeanDivine5 жыл бұрын
yes, logic hasn't always had the capability of sidechaining with any track, hence the bus :)

are higher rations better for compression? or what would you recommend when sidechaing. i noticed you have auto gain on as well ?

Very helpful vid! Thank you for making this. I have a question about mixing snares. I noticed you have 7 tracks for snare in this mix. Do you normally have these many snare tracks? What's your typical approach of layering snares?

Yes! I almost always layer snares. It's a big part of my production style and I try to layer sounds that give the snare more impact, width and texture.

Great video man. Question: Is there a reason you send the kick out to a bus, then use the bus as a sidechain trigger instead of just using the audio track itself? I think the older versions of logic were only capable of using bus tracks as triggers for sidechains in the plugins, but now you can use an audio track directly? Just curious as to if it would make a difference that you know of or not. Thanks! #YepYep

just out of habit :) I think the new way of using the track directly will do the same thing!

Great video sean, just wanted to ask in terms of EQing sub bass and kick, do I have to cut out some of the low frequencies of the sub bass so the kick can punch through or can I let the bass rumble whilst keeping the low end of the kick as well. Is it better to high pass bass more than the kick ? Cos I'm not sure if the sub bass should have a 30hz rumble or not

Hi, great vid! I'm trying to set this up using NI's Solid Bud Comp but I dont see a dropdown menu for me to chose the trigger for the sidechain. Do you know if this is because this particular Compressor simply doesn't have this feature? (I work in Cubase if that matters) thx
@SeanDivine7 жыл бұрын
EastsideRock sidechaining in Cubase works a bit differently. It's really easy to setup the channel compressor on the mixer to use a sidechain signal. Just press the SC button and route your kick channel to it.
@Eastsiderock7 жыл бұрын
Hey thx for your quick reply man. After more research I learned that my version of Cubase doesn't allow for Sidechaining!...Now that sucks!! I have Cubase AI 9 that came with the interface I bought. Might need to upgrade already I guess!
