Would one record the piano first and the singers sings over it or will they record both together?
@matthewray53434 жыл бұрын
If you can seperate the singer from the same room as the piano, recording both will give a more realistic performance with great bleed control. For most home studio singer songwriters, you will mostly record the piano first (ideally to a click track) and then have the singer record their part after. That way you have max control over both tracks.

Depends on the sound your going for. If you are going for a pop or similar sound then realize that you are not after a "natural" sound, your going after an illusion of natural and in that case probably separate because it gives you more control. But if it's more like folk or jazz or older soul or similar recording that you want to sound actually natural then together can sound more natural and the bleed that you get between instruments is one more layer to natural. Also if the bleed is too much, you can use the polar patterns of the mics to control it. But in this video they used a keyboard and a piano plug in, so it depends on the keyboard. If it is loud and you can hear the keys clicking in the bleed, then do it separately. Keep in mind once you compress the vocal it will bring up any low level sounds in the mic including the bleed. If that bleed is the actual piano in the track, then it will blend well, but if it is just clicking from a keyboard, not so much. Hope this helps.

First off, sound has overtaken feel and vibe in mixing and when its done, it can't be reproduced on stage and in live performance and that's why when you see half these acts live, they don't sound half as good as the album. There's a bunch of shit on that vocal that did nothing anybody listening would never hear or care about. Most of these guys on KZbin here are just gear heads that do stuff to feel like they're some kind of great audio engineer or mixing engineer. It's an ego trip. Few of them know how to get a great sound and more importantly a great feel to the music and the song with little, and just enough, audio treatment. The guys that can are the true geniuses. A shining example is what Mutt Lange did with AC/DCs album Back in Black. Someone should teach these guys on here the concept of less is more and to capture greatness and it's realism. Howabout we start with a great artist or band. You won't have to do so much bullshit to make them sound great.
