Yes!!!! Finally got my video for leads! Great content man! Would recommend limiting for more complicated leads? Also on the chorus have tried using the same IR on the single note orange cab as the Nolly one? That way that results not doing a whole lot of eq work with having the same eq shelf the cabs are providing. For future videos I would love to see you processing midi bass, with what the heck Nolly's new midi bass. That man is a genius. Anyways cheers man looking forward to The next one! -Glen

Haha thank you! I have been trying to get a video together solely on leads. I’m trying to get all the typical leads that often find themselves in this music and mix them all. Interesting what you say about using the same cab - a mentor of mine always said a way to get your leads to pop out from the rhythms was to start with a different cab and I’ve done that for so long that actually using the same cab in certain situations where the lead is almost like an extra layer on the rhythms would be a great shout! Yeah I need to look into that new bass instrument, I’ve heard a lot of people talking about it! Thanks again for watching my friend!

9:59 “This time we’re pushing it a bit harder, having a bit more fun with it… The needle still ain’t movin’” 😂 yeah man I’m pretty sure those JST limiters are just boosting the volume lol you’re a mad lad though. That ML orange amp sounds awesome. I’ve never tried a limited before the amp, I’ll have to give that a shot. Distorted guitars are such a pain in the ass to get sounding good in the mix and they’re all I ever mix.
@TerryBeckleyRecording Жыл бұрын
Haha yeah reading that sentence back makes me think I don’t know how I missed that! You might be right about the JST limiter, I do plan on gain matching a before and after and listening to see if the sound does change when the limiter is set low. If I remember I’ll let you know how I get on! I saw the limiting before the amp technique from a guitar tone bootcamp course I took from JST and I remember thinking that one little tip could’ve saved me a great deal of pain in the past! And I know what you mean about distorted guitars. I think other genres have life a little easier as they don’t have such a difficult thing to get right

Do you actually do this kind of processing on your busses (like a rhythm guitar bus) or do you do all of this on each individual track and this is just for example sake?
@TerryBeckleyRecording2 ай бұрын
I used to bus the left and right guitar tracks together and then do the processing on the bus yeah. Now I just convert the panned mono tracks into 1 stereo track but either way it would help me dial in a tone in stereo which I prefer. I just like less tracks in my project.

god I love your vids SO much dude... this brand of pop punk is exactly what my band is going for btw, and I've referenced several of your vids multiple times in the last week or 2. I'm intrigued as to why you start with guitars when mixing, and not drums > bass > THEN guitar? (btw this might sound like I'm criticizing haha, this is NOT the case, I'm still a n00b so I'm just curious)
@TerryBeckleyRecording5 ай бұрын
Thanks dude! Really glad you’ve found them Helpful! Yeah - I start with guitars mainly because it always felt like I was mixing drums without the context of the rest of the song. So I was making EQ/ compression and balancing decisions effectively in solo. I then started making the rough guitar tone first which really helped me then mix everything else. Then eventually I got so used to knowing how I wanted the tone to sound that I ended up getting the guitars 80% the start with. But I know so many mixers that don’t do it that way and still get really good results

How would you do this only using EQ and Boss IR-200, OD-3, and DS-1 or DS-2? Alternatively, Sansamp GT2.

I've been working on mixing my pop punk album over the last couple years and I've been banging my head against the wall trying to get things to sound right. I'll get them to what I think sounds good but then notice something that's off and go to fix it but then everything else sounds out of whack and I end up chasing the mix and making it worse. I got the Nolly plug-in recently and really like using that same Amp you're using on it so I'm going to try your method and see if it helps.

How did this go in the end dude? Did the Nolly amp improve things for you?
@K.f.o_official2 ай бұрын
@TerryBeckleyRecording it has helped thicken the sound for sure. I'm still struggling with my mixes tho. I'm mixing through headphones right now because that's all I have at the moment and they are flat response, which I honestly feel makes things more difficult at times for mixing my low end with the bass and kick. My drummer of my other band just recommended some new headphones yesterday that he said are getting really good reviews from people so I'm going to check those out.

Nice!!!! what mic did you use in the cab section ?

Thanks my friend! For this it would’ve been the sm57, but a lot of the time I’ll blend in the 160.

Thank you! I used the built in cab 3 on the Nolly plugin. It’s the cab that’s usually matched to the 5150 head

Can you explain why you put the preamp before the ampsim for the leads but after the ampsim for the rhythm?
@TerryBeckleyRecording10 ай бұрын
Good spot! That’s just an old workflow of mine that I don’t do anymore - I used to put the preamp plugin on the DI to emulate recording DIs in a studio but I’ve since realised it makes more sense to put the preamp after the guitar amp. I left it in there from the previous mix I did as I didn’t want to mess with them as I liked how they sounded. Sorry for the confusion!
@riotxo10 ай бұрын
@@TerryBeckleyRecording ohhh ok makes sense, I can see an argument for either but i intuitively assumed it made more sense to put it after the amp sim because it’s like feeding the mic from the Cab into a preamp. I’ve watched ur GTR vids mutiple times over and appreciate you so much for the work you do!
