I have watched numerous videos from various artists since I began my watercolor journey. Being an amazing artist does now necessarily mean you are an amazing TEACHER. YOU ARE BOTH! I am so enjoying these videos as They are teaching me necessary basics. That is what I am looking for. Give me practice exercises that will help me become an artist. That is what seems to be missing out there. There are plenty showing us how to paint this or that but if I haven’t been taught the basic strokes, how to mix colors, how much water to use, etc., those videos really don’t do me much good. Thank you for spending your time making these amazing videos!

I just had a lovely old time doing this twice with two different inexpensive pan sets that I have. So satisfying! Then I used the leftover puddles of combined paints to practice some brush strokes. I only just decided to try watercolor in January of this year (2022). I've never done anything like this before and always considered myself completely lacking in artistic ability. What a joy to discover that with some techniques and tutorials I can actually create something that's not too bad. Thank you SO MUCH for creating this channel! I am thoroughly enjoying it and learning so much from each episode.

I've tried making a big colour mixing chart to hang up in my studio, to refer to whenever I need a specific colour. The oddest combinations you wouldn't think of putting together, make for some interesting colours! Pink with a touch of green can produce a lovely muted / "dirty" pink etc... It taught me a lot about colour. In my opinion, the best way to learn is just to smash together whatever combos you are curious about and see what pops up! :)

i would suggest that having two or even three jars of water - one to clean the majority off, the second to clean it off again and the third is used to add to the paint - that way you don't add dirty water into your paint and that will keep the colours clean.

I’ve found that a pipette, eye dropper, or larger medical syringe are all great options for adding clean/clear water drop-by-drop to activate my paints. My Pharmacist gave me 2 free “2 tsp/10 ml” medication syringes, just for asking! No needles! They are super handy, and help to keep me from splashing/dripping to much water around…. So, my set up is: 2 jelly-jars for water & a 10 ml syringe. Happy Painting, everyone! 🫙🫙💉🎨 🖌️

Helo! For prevent paint to get apart in a plastic palet you can use a melamin sponge and rub the surface and the paint wont pull apart again. In addition, to get off stains in this kind of palettes you can use rubbing alcohol to clean up and it works very well, it wont take it off completely but it would do a wonderfull work. Of course a ceramic plate or palette would be the best option, but hope this tips would help those who can't afford or can't have at hand this kind of palettes. Greetings 🙋🏻‍♀️

I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts after you’ve tried it as well. I was excited to try this, but boy does she make it look easy. I think you’ll find that your results are much different than hers and not in a good way. Harriett I don’t know if its because of the quality of paints that you are using or the brand, or maybe even just the amount of water that I am using is just completely wrong, but while its super cute watching you create these cute little pools of color and then letting them gently kiss and create a subtle shade of the two colors perfectly combined and then slowly adding more and more of each color, so that you have a perfect succession of mixed colors and values and everything’s just so PERFECT! But that’s not what’s happening over here when my two colors SMASH AND HEAD-BUTT EACH OTHER! LOL! The second they even look in each other’s direction they have pulled each other in and all the way through so that there are not any different shades or tones or values or colors. It is one completely angry and completely mixed pool of color and there is no way to slow it down, at least not that I am aware of. I was having this same problem in your other color mixing video with the color chart that has the blues on the side. I am unable to get different qualities or shades or values or colors when I’m mixing color. The second my pool of yellow touches my pool of blue they have pulled each other completely into one another. I feel like I’m missing something obvious. And I wonder if anyone else is having a similar experience trying to gradually mix colors like this or if they’re having the cheery, Disney-Princess-Like experience that Harriett seems to have anytime she picks up a brush! 😂 Harriett I love you. 😘

Plastic palette hack: To reduce the "beading" of the paint, take a glue stick and rub it on the base of the palette. Rub off the excess with kitchen roll. Doesn't take it away 100% but definitely helps :) Toothpaste is an alternative, but doesn't work as well as glue stick.

Hi! Really love your tutorials, I am a novice and aspire to reach the level of painting skills you possess someday :) I had a question regrading the watercolor paper. Some of my shades turned out different from yours after mixing the two colours. Does me using hot-pressed paper have any role to play in it? Also, is it appropriate to use the Aquafine tin set as a palette instead of a plastic palette? I feel like the colours don't mix well.
@deWintonPaperCo
@deWintonPaperCo 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sruthi, thanks so much for your message. Hot pressed paper receives the paint in s a very different way to cold pressed which will result in a different colour. Hot pressed smooth paper doesnt absorb the paint in the same way. I would always recommend cold pressed. You can use whatever paints you have, remember, there are an infinite number of brands and colours out there and they are all worth trying out!

While I wouldn't say I'm afraid, I will admit to being wary of any sort of color skullduggery though when I was younger I loved drawing with colored inks--odd. I'm having a problem with the waste. It kills me to use paint, work to make a specific color, ue a few dots, then wiping it off. This isn't a criticism of anyone or anyones style, it's just me. I cringe when when I see teachers using a brush with one color into a pan with a different color. My OCD is screaming when that happens.
