@abstractboss4 жыл бұрын
absolutely! You don't have to let it rest but if you do, don't let it get over 100 degrees. it will set up so fast at that point. If you pour right away though it is usually around 70ish and it will take a lot longer to cure and be slightly less strong

Hello! This video was extremely informative! I’m getting ready to start working on a project using silicone molds. Questions, I’ve been told to use a measuring scale to measure out resin, do you think that is necessary? Also, can you reuse the tools you are using, like the cups and stir sticks? Or does purchasing tools made of silicone make them easier to reuse? Thanks so much! ✨
@abstractboss4 жыл бұрын
so resin peels off silicone pretty darn easy so they are great. I found that I do not like the silicone cups though because they bend too much so i like the hard plastic cups from home depot that have the measurements on the side. The resin peels right out of them if you tip them upside down after you are done with them and let them cure. most resins that say 1:1 mean by volume NOT by weight. you will have a bad mix because most resins are heavier than the hardeners so the measurements would be off.

you're welcome :D work with a warmer resin. you can also use alcoho to spray on top and it will create cool effects and get rid of surface bubbles. Or you can use a blow torch (do not torch after alcohol, you will start a fire and burn your resin). blow torch is the most effective. Just don't use heat in cheap molds, they will stick to the resin and ruin the mold when you try to take it out

@abstractboss3 жыл бұрын

@Sweeps8504 жыл бұрын
One thing should be noted for "newbies" if your resin bottles have the same color lids(I saw yours was different colors) take a sharpie and mark a A or 1 on the lid and do the same on the bottle. That way if you open them both at the same time you won't put the hardner lid on the resin bottle. Really a pain to get off if it hardens. Lol. Best to just open and close one bottle at a time. But opening both at once does happen.

Felicia Muniz hey Felicia! So both those projects would have different recommendations from me. Coasters you can use art resin, puduo, is resin, diy counter culture, and faux rizzle. Hey Martha!!! So I would highly recommend warming your resin up so that way it is easier to mix. The two parts also mix together better when the resin is warmed up. I also like to mix with a silicone spatula if I am working with a difficult resin because having such a large surface to keep breaking up the cloudiness really helps! I hope that makes sense. I don’t currently have my services available because I’m in a move but when I get set back up in my new home I’ll be able to teach virtually 🥰

Great video. I know it's been a yr since you did this, but I just started using Stone Coat and I'm getting micro bubbles. Its frustrating when I can't get rid of them when I put the resin in crystal molds. Can't torch it. Lol I do the warm bath but with a and b together.
@jillzidaritz20424 жыл бұрын
2 questions.. can you zap resin in microwave for few seconds? mixed together or just hardener? Also. what causes dimples when used over acrylic pour . I'm not using silicone. thxu
@abstractboss4 жыл бұрын
Jill Zidaritz ohhh I’ve never put it in a microwave! I honestly would call stonecoat countertops number and ask, they answer all kinds of questions. I personally would prefer the bath over microwave because I wouldn’t want food to go in the microwave after chemicals just got zapped hahaha. But only heat the one part before you mix the two together! The thicker part. For stonecoat that’s part a the resin. For art resin if I remember correctly their hardener was the thicker part. Never heat after mixing the two together. When they’re mixed together a chemical reaction is happening and the curing process begins. Heating it will speed that up. As for the second question, could depend on a lot of things, are you pouring on a canvas or wood acrylic piece? Is the acrylic fully dried? Did you clean the acrylic? Even without silicone, acrylic is not nice to resin 😂 I always recommend cleaning with 91% or higher alcohol. This will ensure it is cleaned and dry before pouring. If it’s on canvas, the back must be braced properly, if it’s on wood you have to do a sealing layer first because the wood is sucking it all up and then lightly sand and do a second. Hope that makes sense! Let me know if any of that helped 😁

hey Tamika! the longer the resin cures then the harder it gets usually. you can use many resins for the molds you plan on doing. I would still recommend clearcast or ksresin casting resins. they are both great brands. also if you plan to do a lot then I recommend a pressure pot. then you won't have to deal with any bubbles at all because it gets almost all of them out even with non casting resins. hope that helped!

Meka - I tried to show it in the video. It is hard to get the camera to angle right. When you start mixing, the resin and the hardener won’t both be clear, keep mixing until it is fully clear. If your resin is warm then it should be easy to mix

Thank you very much. I wish I would have watch the video before I tried to use the epoxy and resin.

Are you able to use a mixing blender for resin? Or would it be more effective mixing with a popsicles stick?

I like the part with the water. I’ve only made one mix so far but your way is easier

Totally! I use a heater now too! I wouldn’t have it any other way

This was helpful but is there one already mixed???
@abstractboss4 жыл бұрын
you won't be able to have an epoxy already mixed because it would cure before you could even buy it. I know mixing can be irritating at first but I strongly encourage warming the resin like in the vid, but also grabbing a mixer you can put on a drill for large batches. And the small mixer from Etsy on my "game changer" video that I did recently. It will save your hands and you won't hate mixing resin so much :D

How do you get ride of bubbles once you’ve poured for your project? Could you use a hair dryer if you i don’t own a heat gun ?
@abstractboss3 жыл бұрын
you can also use alcohol to spray on top and it will create cool effects and get rid of surface bubbles. Or you can use a blow torch (do not torch after alcohol, you will start a fire and burn your resin). blow torch is the most effective. Just don't use heat in cheap molds, they will stick to the resin and ruin the mold when you try to take it out

Mrs BOSS i saw another video, the person put less Hardner, and like twice the amount of Epoxy, dose it Varies, for the types? or can one add equal amounts of both? i don't know anything yet of these components which all I know how beautiful they come out LoL I wanted to start to cast some of my polymer clay figs, well also TY very much for taking the time to show us the steps.
@abstractboss3 жыл бұрын
Rom3 hey there! All epoxies differ. Make sure you pay close attention to whether or not the casting resin you get is a 1:1 or 2:1 etc. They will tell you which one should be two parts and which one is one part if you get a 2:1

The reason they did this was for a harder cure
@abstractboss3 жыл бұрын
Tina Franklin you shouldn’t have to alter the ratio to have a harder cure. If the ratio needs to be different for a better cure then that’s the way they should label that resin so people know to mix that way. I have worked with MANY resins and have found that the strongest resins are when sticking to the ratio

Can we use a mini battery blender for mixing A and B
@abstractboss3 жыл бұрын
Cinta Johnson I would assume no. Too many bubbles and hard to clean immediately or else you can’t reuse

Do we have to use any catalyst or hardener to apply epoxy resin on a cement wall? And if yes what kind of catalyst? An I appreciate your presentation
@abstractboss4 жыл бұрын
Cement is super absorbent. Personally I've only done countertops over cement. I had to seal them and then pour my resin mix. As far as I know, EVERY resin is mixed in two parts. One part being hardener. I would call countertop epoxy though and ask more specific questions to your project. They have been a great resource for my lately
@eyobnigussie75714 жыл бұрын
@@abstractboss so once you are done with the cement you add only the acrylic paint so does the acrylic paint used as a countertop

Hi thankyou for this! Just a question. Is it okay to mix the resin with the hardener when its still hot/warm from sitting it on a hot water? Or should i wait for it to cool a bit before mixing it w hardener?
@abstractboss3 жыл бұрын
Definitely mix hot, easier to mix. Be warned it’ll give you less working time though. Check out my updated mixing video on temp. It’s long but insanely useful
@annamariekassab184 жыл бұрын
Thank you, how hot should the water be that you sit your resin in 😊
