HA, don't be sorry, working the problem is what we need to see! Thanks, this helped a lot. Whenever I thicken dyes with sodium alginate it comes up just horrible and gloppy. It turns out I'm just not patient enough!

I was wondering if this has to be kept in fridge. I mixed some up and left sitting out and it got thinner
@ThePaigeHurst4 жыл бұрын
I refrigerate my dyes. They keep longer. They also thicken when cooled so you may need to mix them again with water depending on how thick it was to begin with.

Do you not need soda ash?
@ThePaigeHurst5 жыл бұрын
Everything has been prepped and soaked in soda ash (then air dried) before painting on dye.

@@ThePaigeHurst and can be soda ash added before print instead presoak the fabric ?
@ThePaigeHurst4 жыл бұрын
@@rlehmann4905 I'm not sure what you mean. The soda ash/water need to be dried if you are painting on it and don't want it to bleed.
@rlehmann49054 жыл бұрын
i mean if is possible add soda ash into printing paste before print , instead of presoak fabric in soda. if you understand me, sorry for my english.
@ThePaigeHurst4 жыл бұрын
@@rlehmann4905 yes it is. The only downside is that once soda ash is added to the dye it only lasts about an hour before the soda ash " kills" the dye.

Can I paint on silk fabric using this method?
@ThePaigeHurst4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. You will need to prep and rinse with care as silk is more delicate than the fabric I use in this video.

Does this dye make clothing stiff?? Is it permanent?
@ThePaigeHurst5 жыл бұрын
If you completely wash out the dye then your item will feel just like it did before the process.

And yes, if you use soda ash as a fixative it is permanent

@@ThePaigeHurst so it stays the same (soft) and you don't need to build water? Does the hat have to be wet?
@ThePaigeHurst5 жыл бұрын
I dont know what you mean by "build water" and no, what you're dyeing should be dry so the dye doesn't bleed.

@@ThePaigeHurst thank you for getting back to me so promptly!! I shall experiment with this method until I can buy some sodium alginate. :3
