Thanks man! Yessir I covered that in video as well. Just a simple low cut filter up to about 100hz and then autotune. This artist records with autotune on to get the exact performance he is looking for.

Hey man great video. Im a beginner to mixing vocals and I was trying to understand how you do the routing for the parallel compression and the lead vox. What I see is that in the actual audio channel of the lead vocal it just the eq and compression but do you then route than audio track to a bus channel or an fx channel?

Ya man, each vocal audio track just has autotune and a slight lowend roll off near 100 Hz. Then those tracks (any considered a lead vocal) get routed to an Aux track that I use for my main processing for the lead vocal. Then from that Aux track, I send a copy of that signal to the parallel compression aux.

I just usually have autotune on the track that I am recording on so the artist can hear the autotune while they are perfomring. This doesnt actually record the sound of the autotune, it just lets us hear the autotune as they record. After we record we can always remove the autotune or adjust the setting from there.

Loved it, only critic here. You disable the plugins and enable while it's not playing the same part it makes it hard to really deeply here the difference. Since it's not the same part that we hear to listen to the difference. Still awesome tutorial :)

Thanks fam! I dont use or have a copy of cubase. I only mix in Pro Tools because Im a pro tools ninja! Other DAWs slow down my workflow because im not as comfortable with the hot keys and overall workflow of each one.

Hey man when you collapse the stereo image to mono the haas effect causes phasing yeah? Doesn’t that ruin your dubs for phone speakers etc?

It will have a slightly phased out sound but honestly, I use this effect to push vocals in the background and not to compete with the lead vocal anyways so IF I chose to use the HAAS effect to get some stereo width, its mainly for a very background vocal. If I need that stereo information to translate on all systems, I will record 2 tracks panned hard left and right.

I rock a sub if I can, but no its not needed. It does help to reference 808s and know how they will sound in a club/car with subs. I like to have a pair of headphones that I know and trust to reference low end as well.

Hey man, i have a question about the fx sends. Do you send the fx channel of the voice to your main bus or do you send the lead vocal bus to the fx? Im quite confused about the routing

You would send the lead vocal bud to any fx sends like reverbs or delays. This way the fully processed vocals get sent to the effects and blended in. From there, the lead vocals plus all vocal effects sends get routed all to my main VOX bus.

All the effects or plugins you are using have mono and stereo types. So which one do you use please? Mono or Stereo? Assuming you put a Virtual Mix Rack. Is it supposed to be the stereo type or the Mono type?

That depends on if the source is mono or stereo and iif I want the output to be stereo. For example, I may have effects on a vocal but I dont want that vocal to sound stereo so Ill keep it all mono. Othertimes, I do want a wide stereo sound so Ill chose to apply stereo based effects. Its really all a per case basis.

@@paperzmusic I only apply processing on the actual audio track if its the only audio track that needs processing. I usually do all my processing on a separate aux track because I generally want to send multiple tracks to that one aux to have them all processed the same. Saves CPU power and keeps the vocals soundng consistent from part to part.
