I've just done mine, but not taken the centre part out. 2 strokes rely on back pressure to stop half your fuel exiting through the exhaust. The chamber is a calculated volume (hence huge exhausts on large 2 stroke motorbikes). Enlarging the silencer holes will reduce outgoing restrictions making it louder and more powerful but not affect the back pressure. Do adjust your high revs and mixture on carb settings or you'll burn out the piston.
