Good video, good point about using the box vs a filleted profile and finding the spot elevations. I had planned on making curb "fancy" profile , but after your comments, I think I will make it also a rectangular profile. It will slightly more work but maybe I will create 2 railing types, one rectangular, one "true" w/ radii, in the same place, and in plan views only show the rectangular and in sections only show the true profile - using filters.

There's nothing wrong with a rectangular profile. I have gone back and forth myself but have had more success with the rectangular (sadly). I like that method for sure. It makes me think that it would be nice to have an instance parameter that could switch between a fancy and rectangular profile.

Thank you this was very helpful! I did this but there was a part that would just not host. It gave me the error of “railing is placed completely out of host.. it may change the adjustment of the railing. How can i fix that? Thanks

Hmm that is interesting . It could be that what you are hosting the curb too is too small or a smaller that the curb itself. That said, it should still host. The other issues I have seen are if a floor sub points are altered in a way where the heights between points are drastic. This can cause errors for elements hosting to them. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Very useful and creative! I had a project and i am new to revit. It had retaining walls on topography. I couldn't use walls to follow it and had to model them in 3ds max and import them. I am not satisfied with it because it's hard to edit. I have to save and update the link everytime. This method gave me an idea for doing that. If it was more versatile to define offset in some points to make the wall go higher. In a simple way, do you know any methods to represent retaining walls that folloe topograph? At some places they need to be 3 feet high and other spots 6 feet

Because of how walls work and specifically how they are constructed, I would say it is not a priority to get a wall to follow topography. You could in theory change the profile from a curb to a wall to follow the topography. But if I were you, I would just model a wall going into the topography.

Great video, really appreciate this. Do you also know an easy way to create those street cat eyes? So annoying.

Awesome Revit hack... However I'm having a problem actually changing the Rail Structure to be the new curb, when inserting a new profile and selecting curb it only shows a 2x2 railing profile and not the new curb profile... I've set this up entirely as shown in your video, any clue as to how this can be fixed? Thanks.

Used a Rail Profile instead, this solved my issue... now I seem to be having an issue getting the curb to conform to its new host... warning message displayed states (placed completely outside of host...etc)

Yea you will get that. My best bet would be to crest a profile specific to the curb or whatever you want. You can use that profile in the sweep to achieve the look. Basically replacing the 2x2 profile.

Hlo sir..is it possible to cut filled region over the elemen automatically in revit?? In my project we have added some piles ,so in detail view have to show ground hatch with piles..so every time I just edit the boundary of filled region with corresponding pile boundary..it consumes more time whenever I get a new updates need to edit manually..could you plz suggest some solution

You could split the topography and delete the area but you cannot cut anything with a filled region. Assuming you are working with a section, make sure the section cut material of the earth in the site settings is set to earth. You can find this in the massing and site tab, in the model site group and using the little arrow to open the dialog window.
