How to model line or partition load on slabs|Comparison between line load & equivalent uniform load

Current versions of ETABS do not facilitate assigning line loads on solid slab for analysis which may be used for representing partitioning, static mechanical loads etc. One way to represent such line loads is using Null or Dummy beams. Null beam is assigned "none" frame section properties while Dummy beam is assigned very small geometric properties.
Another approximate method is by determining equivalent uniform load over slab by dividing total dead load of line structure by slab area of the bay. This may provide acceptable results in symmetric imposition of line loads. However, the results may differ significantly depending on the unsymmetrical distribution, orientation and large magnitudes of line loads and in structures having long bay lengths.
