I'm telling you if you want to have fun at your Marina just sit there and watch how long it takes someone to get back into their space. I think the record was 30 minutes. It was this nice guy and his family. It was only their second or third time out and he got real nervous with all the other boats and all the people watching. I could tell he was getting frustrated so I walked over to where he was trying to get in and asked him if he wanted help. He said most definitely. He was able to get it to the end of the pier for me to get aboard. I had him watch everything I was doing and I was showing his wife what she needed to do to help him. After getting them tied up the right way and I even help them put the cover back on. Saying that he still seemed very angry I invited him and his family to come down to the end of the dock and relax. The kids seemed a little upset until I told them we have PlayStation and a Xbox. I called my two sons to sit there and talk and play with them. I asked the husband and wife if they wanted a adult drink. Once they were calm down the husband kept on saying he wanted to sell the boat because I could not operated. These people are just so nice that I told him that since my tender was about the same size as his boat that I was wearing to teach him what to do. My wife told his wife that she would show her what to do to help him out. After a few weeks he was ready to go out there again. A lot of times when it was just my wife and myself on our boat their family would go out with us. Just remember it might be fun to make fun of people but you got to know the limit. This nice family would have never had fun on their boat if someone did not help them out. I tell people like this gentleman about KZbin channels like that will help you understand some of the little things. Even after all the years I've been on the water I still enjoy watching videos like this. There's sometimes techniques that I have seen you use and try them out on my boat. Look forward to watching more videos. Keep up the great job you are doing.

how do retrieve your bow lines ?
@CLHLC4 жыл бұрын
You purchase new ones everytime.

There's a thin line attached dockside, you use that to pull up the rope from in the water, it's attacked to a mooring chain in the centre of the marina.

why would you extend the passarelle while still in motion? it really is just in the way as you can see at 6:28.. That lady is totally trapped which seems quite dangerous. You have less room to move around and could easily crash the passarelle into the quay wall if you're getting a little bit too close.

Great video, I know it always makes me nervous! Thanks for sharing!

And how did you get your sunken bow lines again?

That was kind of a fail but I Would probably have failed too. I remember doing something similar with my Azimut 50. Just use the freaking joystick. I am an ex-sailor, had a 41 footer with no trusters and single prop, I would backup this thing with wind on starboard and tide, but I would use help. if I had truster I would have used them.

do you get the bow lines off the bottom??
@DavidJones-is3ne8 жыл бұрын
+Mac Silvey a very good point which wasn't explained at all in the video. One end of each bow line is secured at the anchor or clump on the sea bed and the other end is secured on the quay. On berthing, the crew picks up the slack of each line from the quay and then walks forward with it to cleat it on the port and starboard bow respectively (with the ends of both lines still attached to the anchor and to the quay) i.e. The bow lines don't terminate at the bow cleat they go all the way to the quay.I was surprised to see such early deployment of the passarel . It really shouldn't be extended until after the stern lines have bee secured . Extending it early means it's just gets in the way and hampers the crew

Thanks, so many videos assume you know all this. If I did, I wouldn't be watching these videos.

What if you want to go out alone?
@rykehuss34356 жыл бұрын
You cant do that sensibly if you need to squeeze a boat stern-to berth like this. Get a better berth suitable for operating without a crew. Also a joystick system (with a system that keeps the boat in the same spot) and bow and stern thrusters makes berthing much easier without a crew.

Well, too bad!

Joystick control with a remote. It's perfectly possible but you need practice.

Is there a reason why these boats are so close together? Is it just greed on the part of the Marina owners, or is it the tighter spaces don’t allow the boat to attain much speed therefore decreasing the damage when they do collide. These are millions and millions of dollars worth of hardware seems like he’s doing a little breathing room.
@darthkek19533 жыл бұрын
If you berth correctly you don't need "breathing" room, indeed its better to have boats closer together, less water means less current and swell to put lateral stress on.

Big Boats.. I'm going to put fenders half-way down my bulwarks. Water-level cabin cruisers... if I don't play nice I'll ruin their hulls in a Mediterranean Minute.

I thought it was tight parking my 340 in a 14 foot wide slip... yeah and who throws dock lines in the water? Dont most people just untienall the lines except the starboard stern line and take that off last and cruise out of ths slip?
