snakes can get past a 2 ft baffle - snakes and racoons can climb up wood post/trees- ask me how i know? if we are going to put up houses we need to install the proper baffle , like 5 ft where a snake can not climb it

I do understand your comment but baffles are expensive and the larger ones are a lot more expensive. Most people can't or won't spend that much money. Where I live the baffles I have have worked very well and I do recommend them. I guess predator's are not much of a problem where I live. Thank you for your suggestion (hopefully it will help some people) and for visiting our channel. We hope you have a great day.

@@DIYwithWayne you may not have a problem - but the issue is new people seeing your set up and thinking it is safe for their area - a 5' duct pipe from lowes is about $12 and will not allow a snake or racoon climb

You make a good point but how do you install the duct pipe. Please add a description and it will help others. Also if you can e-mail me a photo of your finished baffle, I will put it on my website and add a link in the video description to it and give you credit for it. Thank you

@@DIYwithWayne - get a 1/2" 4 ft rebar put it in the ground 2 ft- then cut 2 ft off a 3/4" 10 ft emt conduit - put that over the rebar-put into the ground as far as possible: get the 8" 5 ft duct pipe and the cap - use corner bracket (L shaped) on the emt with the hose clamp - set the duct pipe over the emt - the cap will settle over the bracket you just installed - keep the pipe about 4" or so off the ground- use conduit straps to mount the box to the emt

Another option would be to put a wire around the tree to hold the house, But, I would caution you on this option to not leave the wire around the tree more than just the summer because the tree will grow around the wire and that will damage the tree. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

Hola sir!🖐Absolutely great video packed with lots of good info. My daughter in law has been very patiently waiting on me (for over a year now) to build her a birdhouse. Now with one grandkiddo from her and my son and one on the way, I HAVE TO BUILD IT. It's the least I can do to thank her for my beautiful grandkiddo's. The information here will give me options of how best to install it when I deliver it. Take care and have a good one sir, Adios! 👊

just get a small L metal bracket with 2 holes on each side. Screw 1 side to bottom of box making sure screws don't go inside floor of house. The other end of L bracket secure it to rebar or pipe with a couple zip ties and duck tape, that's what I would do.

Thanks for the helpful video. I used your method of mounting a 1/2" x 5' piece of conduit to the back of the birdhouse. It worked great and was easy to do. One problem is that the house swivels in the wind even though the 1/2-in clamps are as tight as I can get them. I'm sure there's some simple remedy for this, but I can't think of one at the moment. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Hi Wayne, I have a bird house with a sloped roof like yours. I want to hang it in a wire from a limb. How could I go about doing this? Or is it not wise to do so. It would swing slightly when the wind blows. It won’t be for blue birds. Not sure what bird in my area wld use it. But my grand daughter wanted one.

It's hard to say without seeing it but you may be able to attach a wire to the sides with small nails. I would not use string because it would swing more. Good luck with your project and have a great day.

Some people say yes (as in North, South, East or West) but I say just not to face into the prevailing winds. Every location is different. In my yard, I will place it so that I can see the front from inside my house so I can see them coming and going. Good luck with your project and have a great day.

Not sure about other states, however, in Illinois, by law, we have to call all the utilities before any digging or post driving is done. This is done by "Call J.U.L.I.E." Trust me, if you hit a gas line, electrical line or water pipe, and you did not call, open your wallet.
@DIYwithWayne
@DIYwithWayne 3 жыл бұрын
That's good to know. There is no such law where I live. I also know there are no public utilities on my property. We are in North Carolina and we only need to call 1 number 411 and they will come out and mark all underground utilities. However I'm sure there are visitors to this site what will benefit from your comment. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

You say in some of your replies that some people have limited options. I understand that but they are much better off to not mount a house at all than to mount a house on a wood post or a tree. By showing that method in your videos you are encouraging people to do that. You could mention in your videos that that is not an acceptable method. Please teach them the right way and protect the birds. Much luck.

You are not supposed to mount bird houses on trees, walls or side of wood post. The birds need to step on top of house and see 360 degrees for predators and also where snakes, squirrels, etc, can easily climb.

@@lindahershey9134 The more houses put up the greater the chance of the bird population growing. In the wild the birds still have to put up with predators if they have no houses. Two bird houses can have 4 eggs each, even if two get eaten 6 will survive, without the houses you have no birds.
