Good short, clear video. I appreciate the use of the circular saw for those of us without a table saw. Don't forget that many of us do not have a laser level. I would have been tempted to screw cabinet to wall cleat, but after seeing this I think I'll first see if the weight alone is enough to keep it secure.

I appreciate it, David! Thanks for watching! I didn't have any anxiety by just hanging the cabinets (since they were hefty) but a screw may not be a bad idea if the cabinets are light or you have kids. Thanks!

What do you use to cover the 3/4” gap on the side from the 1x6”?

One disadvantage of the French cleat method is that it makes the cabinets stick out from the wall by the depth of the cleat.
@AndrewThronImprovements3 жыл бұрын
Agreed - Thanks for watching!
@gregoryderwon31333 жыл бұрын
you can hide it by adding some wood on the side and bottom lining of the cabinet. with the same depth of the cleat of course. you will have to be creative with the space you actually need when placing the cabinet. Or you add the wood to the concreet where it lines up with the cabinet making it look flush.
@vhomukwevho10 ай бұрын
You can inlay (whatever the oppisite of offset is) the back board of the cabinet by the same width of the cleat making the cleat flush with the cabinet edges
@jd-qv5el3 жыл бұрын
nice video! is a 3/4 inch plywood good enough for the french cleat? would it help if I 'glue' the cleat to the wall first?
@AndrewThronImprovements3 жыл бұрын
I’ve actually heard of people using 1/2 inch! Before using glue, I would just mount a second cleat hanger on the bottom of the cabinet. But IMO that’s only necessary if you are going to be putting a ton of weight in those cabinets. Good luck with the project!

@TENTHIRTYONE3 жыл бұрын
No need for a few screws on the bottom of the cabinet?
@AndrewThronImprovements3 жыл бұрын
@TEN THIRTY ONE That is actually a good point that I considered. If you are going to be storing heavy items in the cabinet, than I would recommend a second French cleat mounted to the bottom of the cabinet. I am only planning on storing light items in the cabinet, so I was comfortable using only one anchoring/hanging cleat. Thanks for Watching!

what if someone accidentally bumps it from underneath? it looks like its going to slide off
@AndrewThronImprovements3 жыл бұрын
I put a work bench underneath to try and mitigate that - but you are correct that it COULD happen. Once you put stuff in the cabinet it is likely heavy enough that it wouldn’t pop off, but It’s still possible. Thanks for watching!
@gabygol7013 күн бұрын
I just don’t get it. I drill a hole into the wall. I put the screws in and it’s not holding. What am I doing wrong did you put something in the hose to make it grip? I don’t get it.

How come you're not screwing the cabinet to the wood strip ?
@AndrewThronImprovements3 жыл бұрын
Hi Denise. You can totally screw the cabinet to the wood strip if you want to make it more "permanent". I chose to not screw it on so that I have the flexibility to relocate them easily. Thanks for watching!

Hey! Why can't you drill the nails straight through the cabinet to the concrete? Thanks!
@AndrewThronImprovements3 жыл бұрын
Hi! You absolutely can do that. This is just an alternate method so you can easily move them in the future. Thanks for watching!
@tedk91448 ай бұрын
Depending on your climate, using the cleats make you able to remove the cabinets and might be handy just to check for any cracks or water leaks in the concrete. Also allows the area to breathe behind them to prevent humidity and mildew.

How big is the guide? 2"
@AndrewThronImprovements3 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, it was 1”. But pretty much any board can be used - just use clamps (or temporary screws) to get it aligned where you need. Hopefully that answered your question. Thanks for watching!
@thedonssp3 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewThronImprovements o ok. I thought it should be a certain width since it's the bracket for cabinet
@AndrewThronImprovements3 жыл бұрын
@@thedonssp I would go with 1” max - the thicker you go, the further out the cabinet will protrude from the wall. I think a lot of guys use 0.5” to 3/4” drywall for the French cleat. So 1” should give you a bit more durability without too much protrusion.
@thedonssp3 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewThronImprovements sorry I said that wrong. I dont mean the thickness. The top plate or too part of the French hanger you screw onto the cabinet how tall should that be. It looks more that 1 inch high. I was thinking 2" for the top 4 " that anchors to the wall
@AndrewThronImprovements3 жыл бұрын
@@thedonssp oh gotcha. I used a 1x6 and cut it in half. So around 3” (give or take) should be perfect 👌
