I plan to build a studio workstation with trays for keyboards, trackpad, my Mac keyboard on a pullout tray, and studio video and audio monitors. The kicker is I want to be able to recline in a zero gravity position due to a series of injuries related to a car wreck. Id love to see you mock something up Brent.

A simple trick to mount your laptop directly in front of you while sitting and playing the drums: IF you have an old, extra drum seat and an "empty" tom holder on your set - just take the drum seat with its stem out of its "legs" and place it in the empty tom holder hole on your set (I have Yamaha, that has a third tom holder part): the safelock of the drumchair will keep it in place at the height you desire. If the chair's stem/leg/(I don't know the word for it, the part that goes into the legpiece of a drumstool) is way too small for the tom holding socket/hole you can stick some paper, rubber or whatever to fill it so that it doesn't shake at all when you play. Because the drum seat is real/artificial leather, your laptop stays great on it. That way when it's in front of you you don't have to look to the side or anywhere else in a strained position when you play books, scores etc. IF you have an old drum stool, that is.

Hi Brent. How would it be possible to mount the GEMS off of my hi hat stand or off of the GSVMS-KIT? I don't have enough space to add a rack to the the hi-hat side of the kit. THANKS!

I wonder if i could use the 6713EA stand for a single tom instead of using it for and electronic item. I want to off set a tom and all I need is a stand that will do the job. I dont need to add anything else to it. Any suggestions?

Hi Brent, I own the GEMS mount and have to say its not safe for use with a laptop (I'm using a new Macbook Pro). First, the rubber/metal screw stopper thingies come loose easily. Second and more importantly, the stopper thingies don't hold the computer in place firmly. Worse, its not possible to open the lid of the computer farther than straight up because the stopper thingies get in the way of doing so. Do you happen to have something different for mounting computers? Something more industrial strength? Thanks! I love Gibraltar gear and your videos!

Hi Doug, the GEMS stand is not going to secure a laptop the same way a rack is going to secure cymbal or drum. But it should sufficiently hold the laptop against anything that you would come in contact with on a live stage. We realize that the stoppers are taller than new mac books nowadays. This product was created about 4-5 years ago when all laptops were much thicker, and we are now looking into modifying this. If your stoppers are loosening on you, try tightening the phillips head screws that are holding the knobs together. This should help you keep them in place better. The GEMS stand is the only stand we have to mount computers at this time.

I want to add a Roland octapad in a future. Is there an option to add a 6713EA to a rack?
@GibraltarHardware10 жыл бұрын
Yes there are a couple of options. The 6713EA is just an SC-EA100 with a cymbal stand base. You can use the SC-EA100 to mount the octapad to a rack. If you want additional height that the SC-EA100 doesn't give you, the SC-EA200 is the same mechanism with a larger clamping surface with a telescoping feature.

You will notice that the SPX he puts on the stand is NOT secured....it is merely lying on the GEMS mounting option. The locking nuts are nowhere near touching or securing the SPX...I purchased this before seeing this video to hold my Roland Octapad in what I thought was a more optimal or easier manner than the Gibraltor clamp and grabber bar currently in use....it is not. There were no instructions with the product (not even a one pager...note to Gibraltor - we were not all drum techs in a previous life) There was NO way I was able to securely attach the Octapad....unlike a grabber bar and clamp, a slight brush against the Octapad would send a $900 piece of equipment to the floor. He does manage to attach a very thin computer to the product and I guess you could probably attach an iPad as well....nothing thicker. Also the newer model does NOT have four chrome metal locks, they are rubber. Do NOT order this online. Go to a store and make sure that the product you have in mind to use with it actually attaches securely.

Shame on you Gibralter. This stuff is WAY too expensive. You exploit the fact that nobody else really makes accessories like this and the potential customer base suffers. Real dick move.
