Thanks, a great video. I used this technique and it was much easier than what the locals suggested. Thanks a ton.

Also, it may be better to stay side saddle and then start paddling from there so you have dynamic stability, and then use the paddle torque from a stroke on the leg side to bring the legs in.

That is wrong. You need to fix your paddle with both hands before you put the legs in

That's true, it's much more challenging. However, most beginners learn in calmer waters.

No one ever mentions to have the ski pointing into or away from the wind and / or swell.

Great stuff, thanks for making this video! I've had tough rough water re-mounts and i think it's because my head wasn't low and I rushed!

Hi @aircanuck and thanks for the comment. Rough water remounts can be much more challenging as you have the wind and swell to deal with as well. In these conditions I find it important to point the front of the ski into the wind and swell and then time the remount on the top of the swell. That's a personal preference though. Happy paddling!

Rough water remounts involve 2 additional principles that are not discussed in this video. 1. Which side of the boat to remount from relative to the current and wind direction. It's usually best to be on the upwind side of the ski, because the wind is pushing the ski away from you, making it easier to get your legs and feet to the surface before getting up on the boat. Also, if you're trying to remount on the downwind side, the boat is constantly being blown towards and in really rough conditions over you, which is never good. I disagree that it's best to point the boat into the wind, because that can leave the bow and stern suspended on waves. These are the narrowest parts of the boat and leave the paddler with the least possible stability. Also, if the relatively wide center part of the boat is in the trough of the wave, it's more difficult to climb up on it, because your body can be below the boat. This doesn't happen if the hull is parallel to the waves. 2. Establish a paddling rhythm before putting feet in the boat. The video shows the paddler putting his feet alongside the boat for stability, which is essential in rough water, but when the paddler puts his feet in, his paddle is out of the water. This is not the best for stability. Works on the flat, but best to practice for conditions by beginning to paddle before putting feet in the footwell. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZXLZaNrbtWmhbM

@@davidGrainger yes indeed, very important points you make. Positioning the wind at your back is huge factor to a successful remount, some people like to always have bow to their left, no harm to practice with bow both sides. And as you say getting some fwd motion while legs still out helps get going again in chop.

The more stable the ski, the easier it's likely to be. I also find the deeper the seat the more challenging the mount.
