That's a spinet, 450 pounds, 40 to 46 inches high. Full uprights are 700+, 54 inches high. I'm 6'4" 265 pounds and I move over 1000 pianos a year. Full uprights get slid up stairs on boards. You strap a full upright and you're not long for this business.

John is right. While most pianos take up a similar footprint, uprights are called uprights because they're technically GRAND PIANOS IN AN UPRIGHT FORMAT or position.

We move pianos everyday. Take it from us that you guys really know what you are doing. I have seen your other videos and you guys are amazing (Almost crazy I must say). But why to make it so hard. We use "Shoulder dolly/straps" but not for Pianos. "External Step" is such a simple solution to almost all the stairs. You carry an small skid equivalent to a step of the staircase (which can be adjusted to match height). All you need is lift one step up on a dolly and then slide an equivalent step to match the step of the staircase. Rest the dolly and then repeat till you are up. Opposite process on the way down. Irrespective of my suggestion, you guys are mind blowing. Taking a piano up with Shoulder Dolly (shoulder straps) needs courage, power and more importantly skills and experience. And you guys have it all.

I reckon its a reasonable way to move a low-backed upright like that but a high-backed upright is a lot heavier & bigger and there's a far better way to do it with two people. I move pianos fulltime and speak from hard earned experience. Piano moving is maybe 60% technique and 40% strength. No professionals I've ever met use the above method but it looks like a decent way to move a small upright, especially if doing a one-off. (you need plenty more gear to do it properly: eg standard piano moving trolley for a start)
@uman45565 жыл бұрын
I am thinking about to move an upright piano (Nordiska Futura) from 1st floor down (1 level). Is that possible with 2 persons? Piano weighs around 190 kilo. Would you recommend to disassemble it? I am technically talented. However... I am not a piano-expert. Any advice?

i dont know much about moving a piano but why wouldnt they just pad the steps up and take it one step at atime... pad on the piano will not stop chip in a high glossand it is not like a dresser with the harp weight to the back, could get by on a spinet like this (36 inches tall and maybe touching 300 lbs at most .. from the old full size player uprights to spinets , can just pick it one step at a time and take your time ., or if tight overhead just put it on a piano skid board and slide up padded steps? ... but then again what would i know about pianos , i am just a moving fan, not a mover
@HARD_DRUGZ7 жыл бұрын
put it on a small grand board and slide it up, you can stop each step, and you dont have to dead lift it hahahaha

Guy on the bottom needs to put his shoulder into it - that arm stuff is not going to handle much bigger than a spinet, and his back is at risk like that. With better technique, two guys can handle almost any piano.

Upright piano: Also known as a Spinet piano, this is your standard piano that you might find in a school's music room, one with a flat back that stands upright. On average, one of these pianos might weigh anywhere from 300-350 pounds.

@@AdelineCowgirl Exactly. I'm a piano mover & I'd pretty much be out of a job if people didn't want pianos moved upstairs - at least it's what I spend a lot of time doing. Ground floor moves are easier but it's no massive problem for 2 or 3 guys to get a piano up some stairs. Even a tricky move would take maybe 1 and half hours max
