I'm in my 20s and dreamed of living in a different country since a kid. My SAD is so bad in the UK and I really want to move to a hotter country for a while and do some bar work or something. @@synbowld So the choices you have are: 1/ to get a Spanish company to sponsor you to work for them and get you a working visa (this is really difficult because you'd need to be highly qualified in one of a small number of professions) 2/ to be successfully self-employed and apply for a self-employment visa (this demands a very strong business plan) 3/ be a remote worker for a UK company for more than 3 month and apply for the Digital Nomad Visa. There are some variations on these options, but that's it in a nutshell. Since Brexit it has become much more difficult to move here for UK passport holders.

To transfer they’ll have to hire me through their Spanish entity. Does that mean they would be sponsoring me? What kind of visa would that be if I already work for them? There is indeed a 2 year expedited route to citizenship for you. It means you don’t need to wait 10 years like most other people. Sorry for your loss. To even suggest a reversal of Brexit would be political suicide for any politician or party, in spite of how many people might want it to happen. Brexit is still happening and it will be nearly a decade until all of the necessary laws have been changed. At the end of the tiresome process no bureaucrat in his right mind will want to go through it all again backwards. I doubt any EU country would say Yes to the UK rejoining after the mess that leaving caused. It was like a divorce that took over 4 years of arguing between lawyers to decide the rules of how the breakup was going to happen, only to decide there weren’t going to be any rules.

On a NLV you’re not supposed to be working at all. In order to get the visa in the first place you need to show that you have enough savings and/or passive income to meet the financial requirements. If you tell them that some of the income is from remote working you will be refused the visa. If you don’t tell them, and get found out you won’t be granted the renewal. Thanks, tricky question to answer. It depends on the business and whether you need premises and the length of time it takes and the length and depth of the business plan. It’s one of those ‘how long is a piece of string?’ questions.

Great video! I was wondering as I’m 25 years old, hypothetically if I had let’s say £100,000 and I bought a property for £60,000 leaving me with £40,000 in my bank, could I apply for the non lucrative visa? And then let’s say I only spent £5000 there for the year, I would still have £35,000 in my savings, is that acceptable to renew my non lucrative visa for another year as I still have over £27,000? however it’s not “new” money so I’m not sure whether it’s deemed okay.. thanks again for the video :)

First off make sure you’re thinking in Euros. With your plan you’d be fine for year one where you’d need €28,800 in savings. Even if you managed to live on, say, €6000 in your first year, which is below what the government sees as basic subsistence level, you wouldn’t have enough savings left to get your residency renewed because you need twice as much (€57,200) to cover years 2&3. Sorry to burst your bubble. You could consider a longer term plan of getting a remote working job for a few months where you live now, then applying for the Digital Nomad Visa. Or an even longer term idea of creating a business of your own. Basically you need more money whether you’re using savings or an income.

@@m74bg64 in theory, yes, although they’ll be looking to confirm you’re not working at all. @@youtoospain you’ve been a great help In my search! Still a couple of things I couldn’t find online and one was if I qualified like I say for a non lucrative visa for 5 years through having enough money in the bank, what are your chances of still being declined permanent residency afterwards? Because basically I have a good amount of money, but I’m from England so im just figuring out ways that I can get property in Spain and live there consistently for 5 years. Because I’d have enough money to cover my 5 years easily on a non lucrative visa but then I don’t know whether I’ll be denied permanent residency even though I’ll own a property and will have done the 5 years required. But I couldn’t really do a digital nomad visa for 5 years because I read you have to show proof of clients etc so basically my plan is I’ll have more than enough money to stay there for 5 years, and then once I get permanent residency in Spain, maybe I will come back and work in England for a few months a year but again I’m unsure whether that’s allowed? My profession isn’t an online job so other than a non lucrative visa, I’m unsure as to how else I could get permanent residency.. Sorry for such a long message but you’ve been really helpful so far and I’m just trying to get as good of an idea as possible on how I can go about it. Thanks again😀

@@m74bg64 well if you’ve fulfilled the conditions of the NLV for 5 years, including proving you’ve not been out of Spain for a total of 10 months in that time, and you’re okay financially, then there’s no reason why you won’t get your permanent residency, then you’re free to work in Spain if you want. I’m not sure tax wise how working for a few months a year in the UK would work, but I don’t think there’s any law against you doing that. You’ll need to declare any worldwide earnings in Spain.

@@goldenchild.lifestyle there’s no rule against you going for a holiday during which time you can investigate working there. Well I moved after Brexit for a start. And I never say it’s nigh on impossible to move here. And you don’t need a million in the bank. If you’re retiring at 55 without a pension though you’d of course be expected to have enough money to see you through to when your pension begins. So unless you’re selling your house for a lot of money you’re not really in a position to afford it.

@@youtoospain Always the risk, but it's near impossible to enforce which is proved by how all the other EU Nationals spend months unlimited in Spain, when legally they too have 90 days (something most if not all people don't know about). I understand if you want to work etc in Spain they are (for those under the WA not transferable) but if like me you have retired or work on line, having a visa or residency in one EU country means it's very easy to live in another EU country, I have friends who have picked the golden visa from Portugal and live in Spain purely because Portugal have a better system or should I say easier system. The loophole for those of us who live in the EU and are non-EU, is the same loophole when we came to Spain and remained for the whole winter when in the EU. I cross the French/Spain border how could anyone in Spain know when I arrived or left?, They can not and so by default it becomes a unlimited stay.

@@SlimTortoise i can see the attraction, and I guess it’s one of the reasons the EU was created, to make it easier for travel and trade and save money on border control. Landlocked countries must be saving a fortune on that. It’ll be interesting to see whether the ETIAS system makes a difference, if it’s ever linked in to traffic cameras and facial recognition it will close up the loophole a bit.
