How To Move Your Wifi Router To Another Room With A New Line

Hey Guys!
I am very excited because in this video I will show you how to relocate your wifi Router to another bedroom. In this house we will move it from the master bedroom to the living room where they don't have an outlet.
We will run a line underground from the demarcation point to the front of the house where the living room is located. This option is recommended when you don't have an attic, otherwise an attic run and wall fish would be the first one, but this section of the house doesn't have one so we will go with the underground.
The parts and tools we will need are: Rg6 cable, crimpers, strippers, wire cutters, fittings, wall bushings and silicon. If you have any questions about the tools, let me know in the question section.

Coaxial cable under ground is a bad idea due to weather. It would have been better if you had attached the cable under the landing just above the ground. Other then that everything else is good.

If i want to change the location to other side of the house which i need at least 50ft cable. Can i just take the cable out from the ont unit and just extend that cable or its better to use new cable like you did in the video. Thanks.

Great questions Lleyton, yes, it could let water or bugs in. That’s why you always want to use wallbushings with silicon on both sides so nothing gets in there.

What if you already have the cable in your room

You can tone it out to the box outside or you if you don’t have one you can just try one by one connected to the street line until you get the correct one.

Spectrum activated one of my rooms but I want to move the Modem to another room. It already has a cable but it's not active. How can I activate that coax myself?

You either get a splitter and connect all the lines to it. Or try connecting one by one to the main line coming from the street until you find one that works. That’s only if you don’t have a toner, you can also get one at harbor freight for like 15-20 bucks and it will facilitate the job a lot.

Does the power outlet have any connection whatsoever to the router? During installation i was asked which room the router was connected to. So does just simply plugging the router to another room (thus power outlet) be a problem?

Hey Jesus, the power outlet is not related to the coaxial outlet. As long as the technician actives all the coaxial outlets in the house you should be able to move your modem throughout the house.

You can try to connect it to the outlets at your new apartment until you find the one that works. If none of them work then your provider has to come out and active the connections outside.

That would be ideal, for the lines that are going to be connected to the system.

It will turn on if the line in your bedroom is activated, if it doesn’t turn back on it mean it’s not. Then you can try activating the line at the media box.

As long as you own the house you are welcome to do any modifications to the house as far as cables of this kind. If you are renting I’d recommend talking to the landlord first before making any penetrations to the walls.

That would not violate the terms of service, the only thing you are doing is relocating your equipment to a different part of the house. There is people who have active multiple outlets at the house with that purpose so they can move the router at certain times. I remember meeting people that had the router in the living room and they liked switching the furniture around for winter and summer season so they also switched the router around every time and they had two outlets ready. So you are free to do something similar, you won’t be violating any therms of service for doing something like that.

What if i moved into another apartment is it ok if I will transfer my router by myself? Theres no need to add cable coz the apartment is infront of my old apartment. Is it ok if i will transfer my router with my new apartment all by myself.

Hi Leona, try connecting your modem/router to your new apartment and connecting it the same way. If you see the lights on the equipment coming up it works, if you don’t see them, then you will have to have a tech out to active the outlet. Good luck! 👍

I have two computers one on each floor. I’m using ethernet connection to them. I have two modems. One is active on the second floor. The second modem on the first floor isn’t active. How can I active it without getting a second bill?

Great question, do you also have a router? You would need to have a router or a switch on the second floor and then you just need to run a line to the first one to connect to the other computer. You wouldn’t be able to have 2 modems active without having to pay extra but you could have 1 or 2 routers active that’s your best bet. I hope this answers your question. Stay safe!

@@520smarthomes6 If I hook up 4 ethernet cables to my router and then get 4 switches and place them in 4 different rooms? Would they all work correctly? I need a switch for my room because the WiFi just doesn't reach there at all. My mom's room the wifi is poor as well I'm thinking about either getting my uncle to do it or my dad or someone professionally because I need a more stable connection entirely for my room upstairs (fire tv, xbox, and laptop), and my sister needs one for school she's across the hall from my room.

Why did the main need to be cut and new connector need to be added? Why couldn’t you simply put the connector on the new line, like you would have to in any scenario because it is newly ran, and then remove the main from the now defunct splitter and then add the barrel, just like you did , only with existing main connector? Also, what lif the main (from the street ) ends in a 70RF filter , and THIS is where connection to the cat cable that goes into my home , evntually to my modem. What if I wanted to Split that cat e into two ?
