Hi Jeroen, Any glass plate would work. I would suggest checking out Amazon. Just make sure it is a decently thick piece of glass and not paper thin.

Hello! Could this same principle apply for acid/etching cream? And get a someehat similar effect?
@IKONICSImaging
@IKONICSImaging 2 жыл бұрын
Cream etching is primarily for very light surface etching, so it would be very difficult to simulate the stage carve effect you get with sandblasting as the acid cream barely etches any depth into glass.

How does this work with washout film? how do you find a printer to make the original art work?
@IKONICSImaging
@IKONICSImaging 11 ай бұрын
You can either download a design online (lots of sources - just search for SVG), or you can create your own design. Then you just print it out on a regular inkjet printer making sure the print is nice and dark. Then you can expose the artwork onto our film using an exposure unit.

I'm working on a glass etch ada compliant sign with braille. It needs to achieve a depth of 1/32" deep. I've tried rapid mask 4mil, a good product, however i have trouble keeping the mask from lifting off the glass during the sandblasting process. It is a negative image, so the entire panel is get hed while the braille and lettering is masked. The small surface area of the mask creates an issue when I try to achieve any real depth to the sign. Do you know of any products or methods I should try to achieve my goal?

Our ultra pro film (ikonicsimaging.com/films/photoresist-films/ultrapro-roll.html it comes in sheets too) is recommended for better results. The membrane is thin and breaks apart much cleaner. Please call Darin Jones, our technical sales rep at 1-800-643-1037 x113 with any questions.

How would something like this be mass produced? We as a company are looking to get into something like this, but Im trying to find the line when something like this is considered production mass made, or if its art. If that makes sense.

Sandcarving is a great mass producing machine, however complimenting mass production with artistic/profit growth projects is a good road to go down. You can create pieces that are unique for your company and customer, but also for the industry. That being said, multi stage carving is not going to save you time in production, but it will create a better bottom line and more customer loyalty. The best advice is to call your rep at Ikonics for some great multi stage designs and create a masterpiece that is not easily replicated by your competitor. I am sure you will get a lot of comments and a lot of questions on how you did that piece. There are also ways to do this process quicker once you develop a game plan and see what your market is willing to pay for. Start high because your time, creativity, unique processing, and hand crafted masterpiece is definitely worth every dollar.

Hi J Go! There are many ways to price a personalized or decorated glass piece, as most people worldwide have laser engravers. Price higher as you can always go lower if needed. Lasered products is on average about $ 1 USD/per minute and blasting is $3-$5 USD/per minute. We also suggest that people charge what they feel their working time is worth. Personally, we would suggest to charge $ 100/hour so if a piece takes 5 minutes to make then that is $8 labor plus the price of the substrate and film costs. So if the blank plate costs $30 and it took 15 minutes to carve, then the suggested price would be at least $60+. Also, take into consideration the price of the brand of blanks (Dollar Tree vs. Krosno) and double that price. Another easy way is to charge by the photoresist film used. Etching a two stage design like this is in the $1.50 per square inch category. So an 8" x 8" plate would be $96. Feel free to email technical rep, Darin Jones, at djones@ikonics.com for additional pricing options and he can assist you further. To sum it up, the suggested retail would be about $95-$ 100 USD based on either pricing option listed above.
