Beautiful how you introduced the concept of the recruiter being a person 😭i imagine it sucks feeling like others approach you just to climb up a ladder

"Who am I? What am I doing?" Damn Kaycem throwing the tough questions, it's too early for an existential crisis 😂

OH MY GOD. I never thought of trying to ask for the person's contact, usually nerves cloud my mind, but it's such an obvious thing to do that it's ridiculous how easy it is. Thanks for the advice man

Getting bad criticism is actually within the best case scenarios. Back in 2018 I asked for feedback at the Comic Con and what I got was: the guy reviewing my portfolio, making no comments, no expressions, and finally he handed me my book back and said while shrugging "Well, is not up to me to tell to stop doing this." Then turned around and kept talking with his colleague. If it wasn't because I have a huge ass ego, I might had droped art entirely at that moment. Or maybe it was the best thing that could happen to me, because now I'm making a living as full-time artist. And everytime I need motivation I recall that moment, which fuels me with the anger to prove that mf wrong.

Yeah.. I don't tolerate rude people. If a recruiter is trying to not have a conversation and has piss poor communication, that's a red flag for me. It's also my time that's being wasted if there isn't going to be a give and take with having a conversation. I've dealt with people like that at cons, and it feels like dealing with a Karen at a retail store. I've had great experiences where there were mutual conversations and amazing critiques. These guys are dealing with a lot of people at cons and sometimes breaking the formalities and just asking them how they feel, they will start to lower that barrier and resonate with you a bit.

Amazing advice I think it'll be incredibly helpful in the future!! Though, is it still possible to network like this even when you can't go to art conventions?

Eh, unfortunately my experience at lightbox expo (2022) portfolio review was crappy. 😅 For one I didn't even get the one for my field, and two they were more than an hour late. 😑 When they finally gave out a review they were extremely rude, never said ANYTHING positive about my artwork, and worse didn't explain why when I asked for a critique. 😡 Forgot her name but apparently I wasn't the only one cause 6 more people behind me that time had the same treatment. 😑 So not every recruiter or artist are gonna play "nice" with you. 😑 Won't go this year (broke as hell 🤣) but next year I planned on going. 🤔

Dont expect people to say anything positive about your Art, you do Art because you like doing Art for yourself. Is it nice to ge recognized and get compliments? Of course, but that should not be the reason you are doing Art or anything in life. Do it because you like doing it. Also as an Artist you should look for the people that have no Problem in obliterating your Art, that is how you grow the fastest, accept their criticism and dont be offended by it.

@@Dunesparks2 Look, I don't give a crap what people say (hell I barely even bother with social media 🤔). What pissed me off is how she treated me and everybody else who received a review from this individual (6 people is A LOT in my opinion to receive that many complaints) . Her critique was in no way constructive, which is the WHOLE point of a critique.😡 If you're gonna give a critique give me a bloody damn good one. Don't just say this is wrong or I don't like it because it contain this subject (apparently the reviewer is not a big fan of vehicles 😑). Tell me how to improve (is it the proportion, environment, should the lighting be fix, etc) , or better yet SHOW me cause it was on an iPad. 😡 So yea there are people out there who will give unhelpful critiques. 😡 Or just terrible in general cause I'm pretty sure not ALL artist are nice and polite (so far I've been lucky to meet most good and polite artists in my field😆). Besides the lousy critique I found her overall unprofessional and rude considering she was late for her own review and did not even apologize for it. 😑 If I had one positive thing to say is that it was free. Cause if I remember, CTN portfolio review is a paid event. 😑 And this IS for job networking, so I should be getting my money's worth. 😤

Ask them how things have been! Tell them their advice when you showed them your art before was helpful, and you're looking to show them some new work you've done and see what they think.
@bored-bt4nn17 сағат бұрын
Be friends with them Maybe ask them to eat out or ask them where thier plan to go next convention and tell you also go there!
