Great video! If you lower the voltage to around 1 volt, no bubbles will be formed. Although it takes longer, the parts will come out better.

Thanks Billy Bob, I’ll definitely try that next time! 👍🏻

@@kaspersworkshopmanners The reason for this is because water is split at a voltage of over 1.23 Volts. The water splitting is the reason for the bubbles. Thanks for the reply.

Hello! Great tip! I am needing some help with bigger pieces, like around 1000 cm² of surface area, would you know how can I calculate the voltage for such a piece? Or should I just let it for longer?

@@heitorp.c.1327 I know that such a formula exists, but I don't know it. But leaving the piece in for longer should give the same result.

Thanks a lot Al! For some reason I never copperplated but it’s the exact same proces as nickel plating. Only replace the nickel with copper 😉 I wish you a lot of fun plating your items! 💪

Reiniging blijft hetzelfde. Succes met jouw project!

Thx for sharing I have a question for you I tried what you explain ( also preparing nickel acetate) but the acetate not became exactly green one but i tried also to nickel plating lead... but lead become dark :) If it is not became the green that is mean it is not good? Also can i nickel plate the lead by your way
@kaspersworkshopmanners

Hi! Exactly, if it’s not turning green, it means there is something wrong. The color of green can vary though. A light green is OK, if you leave the nickel in longer it will turn darker. The ‘cooking’ of the solution takes approximately one hour. Do you use (almost) pure nickel? About nickelplating lead… I’m not sure if it will work or, as you mention, only change color beacause of the acid… Please, try to find out if your nickel is realy nickel. Follow my proces again and first try to nickel plate a copper coin that is cleaned. I hope this helps you a bit further!

If you leave the copper layer unpolished but polish the nickel layer, will the finish be the same or different from the one where both layers are polished?
@kaspersworkshopmanners
@kaspersworkshopmanners Жыл бұрын
Good question J. The simple answer is: you can not use the nickel as a ‘filler’. It is nearly impossible to get a shiny result on a dull surface. So the finish quality of your base material will be the finish quality of your plated object. If you try to let the nickel shine on an unpolished base material (like you mention) you will get little black spots, like it is corroded. If you go further, the nickel will disappear. So in my opinion: get the finish your base material exactly as you please before plating. Actually, when I think of it….nickel plating will only change the color, that’s the shortest version! 😅 Good luck with your project my friend! 💪

@Kasper’s Workshop Manners Thank you for the reply! I'd like to achieve a brushed aluminum look on a 3D resin-printed model. As I don't have any equipment at all at this stage I'm simply doing a lot of research to see what is possible. 🙏🏽

Would a 12V battery charger work as a power supply?

Absolutely Darren! See if the amps are not to high (max. 5 I would say) It might take a little longer to get full result but it will definately work.

Where did you buy the Nickel in NL?
@kaspersworkshopmanners
@kaspersworkshopmanners Жыл бұрын
Hi Mih Pop, I couldn’t find a dutch store that sells nickel at a reasonable price, so I bought it on Amazon. I answered your question before with some links but I think it was removed because of the links. So please try to search for ‘pure nickel’ on Amazon, it comes in all sizes and shapes. That does not matter as long as it is pure nickel…. 99,96% or so. Good luck with your project!

Why is nickel solution needed if you are using nickel on the positive side. It seems redundant.
@kaspersworkshopmanners
@kaspersworkshopmanners Жыл бұрын
Hi Ed, that is a really good question! Sorry for me being late to react! This has to do with the time the plating process will take. With just the vineagar and a nickel anode it will take hours to get an object properly plated. Next to that I’m not sure what the quality will be if you do not use a ready made solution. Again, a good question. I might make a video to demonstrate the difference… would that be helpfull? Let me know!
