This is a very important video for new players for sure! I've noticed some struggles with newer players recently.

We were all new players at one time... but when it was a smaller group of folks there was usually someone to walk us through the rules... so many new players. I hope this helps. Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to comment!

What is best etiquette for finding a disc with no contact info? I always text those with numbers in it, but have tended to hang on to ones that don’t have contact info

Good question! Playing for over 30 years, it was always part of the culture to do my best to find the owner. Easier back in the day when we only had one course in the area and a handful of players. But, we also had limited ways to buy discs and so each one was precious. Nowadays there are so many discs and they are easy to buy that the culture has changed with new players having the attitude of finders keepers. However, I still try to get every disc back to its owner within reason. I will post a picture on our local Facebook page if there is no contact number, and then our local store has a great lost and found system, so I just take all of the ones I find there every Friday on my day off... it gives me another excuse to check out the used bin. I know sometimes I find a disc with no ink that is really nice and I don't think it is the end of the world if you keep it... the owner should have left his/her info on it. However, I personally am trying to work on my own tendency to want everything for myself especially cool discs even if I didn't pay for them, and so as part of trying to be a better person more concerned with others I try to take the temptation out of my head and just have a routine of turning every disc in... I hope that makes sense. If I give myself some wiggle room, I will find an excuse to keep all the discs and I miss out on helping a fellow disc golfer being reunited with what may be his/her favorite disc. I know I have been super excited when a disc I thought I would never see again is returned... how cool is it that I can be part of that equation when I find a disc and turn it in. (Please hear me say this is my intent, but I am not perfect and I can't say I handle every disc perfectly... but having a plan in my head before I find a neat disc in the woods helps me avoid the temptation... I hope that makes sense.) There is no perfect answer, I just try to live by the idea of how would I like someone to treat one of my discs that I lost on a course and then try to do that. Thanks again for the question.

Return discs should be #1. I play almost every day, and will throw multiple shots for practice. The I'm averaging like 2 lost discs per week just from forgetting them, and get almost exactly zero calls for them. I think some people expect some sort of reward too, and after getting nothing for returning discs they decide to just keep them. Gets really frustrating when I'm too dumb to remember my discs but also that some people just assume my new leopard 3 with my number on it is now theirs.

I totally feel your pain... it is so easy to forget a discs when practicing... only to go back a couple of holes later and realize someone has picked up your favorite disc with your information on it... and never get a call or text. I think it is a culture/education issue. New players don't know the protocol... but then there are just the greedy players that considers each disc they find as an early Christmas present. I think each course can slowly educate and create a culture of returning, but it takes older players encouraging the newer ones to do the right thing. thanks for watching and I hope some of you wayward discs make it home. PS> it is funny to get a call about one of your discs from a state you have never played in. Some of my lost discs have travelled more than I have! :D

I encountered a situation where i wanted to let someone play through, because he was sprinting, but he refused to come within ear shot until he'd ruined my game for the day. Im always happy to let people play through because im trying to play at my own speed Litter is my biggest pet peeve though

Unfortunately even when we try to do our best, sometimes we miscommunicate with others and both parties end up stressed. I totally get when you are trying to let someone through and it just isn't working... it makes it hard to enjoy the game. There are also different personalities on the course... I am hyper-sensitive to who and what's going on around me while my wife won't even notice a marching band going by. So I try to remember in those crappy mixed up days that the other party may just not be aware of what is going on... because usually when stuff like that happens it is due to messed up signals rather than malice. Now litter on the other hand is just so hard to excuse... and it seems to be getting worse as our society becomes more and more self-focused. Thank you so much for watching!

No harm at all in skipping past holes. I play solo all the time and can say it's far less disruptive to someone's game to skip around them than to have the wait while you play through. If it's a group skipping holes then I get it but solo players get a pass.

I totally agree and do it often when there is a backup or a large crowd in front, but I also make sure that my skipping doesn’t interfere with anyone else’s game. If the course is open, then skipping is no problem. What I see a lot is folks like to start on hole 6 at our course due to it being next to the parking lot and they never look to see if a group is finishing on 5. This rule won’t be any issue for the majority of folks who care about their impact on others out on the course… but there are some who need a gentle reminder. :D Thanks so very much for watching.

@@ogdiscgolfer at the beginning of the video you were searching for the best way to say something regarding in depth. I was just trying to offer a suitable alternative. I was intending to be helpful, but out of context I can see why my statement would be confusing. Sorry if it seemed like I was trolling you. I enjoy your content and have subscribed to your channel in hopes of supporting the work you do. Thanks for asking me to specify what I meant. Best wishes!

Thanks! I tend to assume I am missing something rather than thinking folks are trolling... until it becomes obvious. I will sometimes do the same thing... I watch a video and then comment about it without remembering that the creator probably can't remember half of the stuff he/she said, especially when they are as old as me! I just appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment!
