I absolutely love how you structured this video. You like to do this thing where you give me this back-stage, after the show chill vibe. You do it by pretty much saying goodbye after you explain how to make the beat but then the video rolls on and it's like I'm sitting here watching you play beautiful music from the audience of a theater that you thought to be empty but you're on stage playing just for the sound and the heart and soul. You really give strong vibes man, and you do it in the most subtle and simple of ways but it reaches my heart like nothing else on youtube.

I read someone wanting a how to Burial so I thought I would just post this... Burial used Soundforge to make his music. He would layout his sounds by ear, this led to the timing variations. His sound sources included recorded household sounds and drums sampled from garage records (such as those by el-b). Hatcha sent him a cd of static and glitch sounds after receiving his demos early on and he incorporated the sounds in his music. A lot of the other sounds where drowned in reverb and had heavy amounts of pitch processing in them. A lot of the bass sounds where similar to old jungle records so those could be samples from there. Really muted reece basslines and distorted 808's ran through a mixing desk slightly hot. Collect a lot of rnb and soul accapellas also. Some of the sources for the vocals will be really obvious in songs you would not expect. For most of his early music he did not even use a daw.

I'm sad, yet happy that Joji is still underground. Sad because I think he needs needs more recognition and love not only as Frank, but as himself too. Happy, because if he was too known he would possibly start caring about others opinions on his music way more and making not something that he likes and enjoys, but something that everybody else enjoys. So no pressure George keep up the cool beats, sice you have that Aestethic vibe that Najubes and J Dilla had, but they've passed away and you continue to spread and make the genre more popular.

I have a problem. I've tried doing this 10 times now with my own selected samples, but when I take down the tempo to match the piano to the drums, the piano doesn't slow down like you said it would at 7:44, but my drums do. When I take it back up to the correct tempo, the drums correct themselves, but the piano is sped up and high pitch. What am I doing wrong? Sorry if my wording didn't make sense.
@jasperlee24558 жыл бұрын
same problem
@kissconsider8 жыл бұрын
When you first cut the drum sample, and find the correct tempo for it, make sure to auto-detect the time for the sample, as shown after 7:44. Also, check the Stretching Method. If it says something akin to "Resample" or "Auto", change that to "Tonal" or "Slice Stretch". Use "Tonal" if you want a more natural sounding sample. Now, when you try to move the tempo around, the sample should stay in place. To be honest, you should really use Edison to cut your samples (mainly because they save each cut into a special area in your computer)
@jasperlee24558 жыл бұрын
+Lance Meyers I changed the stretching method and have done everything exactly how he has done it but I still have a fast piano track at the end
@kissconsider8 жыл бұрын
+Jasper Lee Align the piano track to a set amount of bars by using the stretching tool. Make sure to set the snap (magnet) to "None", and stretch the piano to the nearest whole bar (1,2,3,4,etc.). If the piano still sounds fast, you probably have the wrong tempo. stretching far makes it slower.

Have you ever listened to Dilla? No unpredictable off beat drums, no funky basslines, no snares that catapult you through the solarsystem, no harmonic dreamy background sample that make you feel like you are floating through the sky on a cloud, no creative manipulation of a vocal sample to make it sound completely different. Thanks for making people look these great artists up though.
@PeteS_19946 жыл бұрын
I think to imitate Dilla you have to remake his songs to understand how he plays with the basslines and drums. Also how he chops up samples, what he did wasn't very complex however definitely took a musical mind, a trained ear and was so subtle that it's hard to replicate. I think the fact Dilla's music is kind of simple but hard to remake shows his genius, it shows that he knew what he was doing.
