2:03 There's a certain satisfaction when I hear the glass make that clear and loud TING when it cracks. Makes you wonder who came up with this idea to open a bottle of wine this way.

Sediment is not dirt, it is proof of it as organic not reconstituted wine and probably the healthiest part of the wine as oppose to digesting glass shreddings.

I I know it is cleanly cracked, although that last step I’d do that not only for sediment; but just for my piece of mind to make sure there is no glass. I know my parents wouldn’t drink it if I don’t do that, but what a great trick.

To look through the bottle when you're pouring. Inside the bottle there is sediment floating around, by being able to see it through the bottle you can leave it behind and not pour it out.

It's not just feather. You can clearly see you can not do that without another tool and a heater.

What about shards of glass falling into the bottle? Is this not dangerous???
@user-cg9yu4gx2q
@user-cg9yu4gx2q 3 жыл бұрын
If you notice he used kind of a filter when transfering the whine to another bottle, its unlikely any shard will fall, because this process works more like melting than breaking anything, its a clean cut, either way, when transfering the Port if there is any impurity from the cork or even a shard from the glass, it should stay in the filter. This is a legit and safe process

why did you light the candle?
@TheGuggala
@TheGuggala 7 жыл бұрын
Supposedly your supposed to use the light of the candle to look for sediment through the bottle as you are pouring the wine. But since he's using a cheese cloth to catch the sediment it is rather a redundant step.

Amazing trick and super elegant presentation! I need to get a tong like that and a big feather. Do you think this trick can be transferred to other bottles of wine. I am not a port fan but this is a neat party trick, too. But as far as I could see from the video, the candle was not really needed this time.

it's strange to me that yeast sediment in port is so thoroughly removed while in bottle fermenting beer it's often swished around to incorporate into the beer, or savored at the very end

It's a bit overdone,but hey, rule of cool. Now I'm just trying to decide which is more impressive; this or sabrage. Also, I'd thought one would use the quill end of the feather. Guess not.

@teamthoth

No. Some people don't filter their wine. You place your bottle between you and the candle as you pour it into the decanter and the light will show sediment gathering at the neck. You are pouring it in a way to not get the sediment in the decanter by trapping it where the neck opens and the candle let's you see it.

1: after using the port tongs please put it away or put it inside a glass of cold water 2: after you successfully cracked the bottle, please wipe it before you pour the wine into the glass. Imagine there’s a crumble of the material of the glass and you drink it.

Yes, let's just taste test this freshly opened bottle of port by pouring a little into a glass without filtering it first to make sure there are no slivers of glass in it from fracturing the bottle neck. ;-)

I can't believe he was that careless to have a taste of the Port before pouring it through the muslin, so many people have had micro shards of glass in their system from stuff like this & using a sword to open a bottle. When are people going to exercise logic?
