How to open and lubricate your E61 grouphead Cam (PL62X)

Finally here is my attempt to open and lubricate MaraX cam head.
My advise is just please be extra careful when unscrew.
E61 Grouphead machine has been around since 1961, so many videos already available on youtube from across many brand.
E61 Groupdhead is pretty straight to the point and easy to fix on your own.
Despite of your machine brand, you can actually find plenty of spareparts for E61 Grouphead online, therefore this is truly a great advantage of having a E61 Grouphead

Thank you for the clear video. I followed the same steps for my Lelit Bianca v3 and it was an easy job. Putting the level in the middle position before disassembly was a great tip which saved me a lot of time. I was able to easily put the cam back in, and the whole process just took about 5 minutes.

Well I've just opened up and lubricated my MaraX group head for the first time - I had your video playing on my iPhone as I did it......it was so helpful, clear & detailed. A 15/16 inch spanner / wrench fits the size of the nut perfectly and is long enough to undo the tight nut easily leaving no scratches. I couldn't have done it without your video ! Your suggestion to use the handle to slide the shaft back in was a lifesaver. Also, many other videos claim that the shaft cannot be re-inserted incorrectly. They are wrong. You must replace the cam in the same orientation as when you removed it (I suggest with the lever half up. But if you manage to reinsert the cam even a 90 degrees off, you will not be able to lift the brew handle when you re-assemble, though you CAN re assemble.

Good video showing whats involved in dismantling and lubricating the lever. Although its unfortunate he used part of an old plastic bag or whatever to cover the large chrome nut in his attempt to protect the chrome when breaking the nut free.The plastic wrap was much to thin to protect the chrome from the amount of force needed to loosen the nut. His other error was using a thin walled bicycle wrench as the tool use to break the nut free. If you pause the video at at 2:48 - at the bottom of the video frame near his palm... you can see he has chewed up and chipped off some of the chrome on the high spots of the nut where the wrench was exerting all its force. It would be better to follow his advice and protect the chrome on the nut but wrapping it with several turns of electrical tape. Even better... find a wrench with wide jaws so the entire surface area of the hex portion of the nut can distribute the force... even better use a socket wrench. Would a socket wrench be long enough to get pass the brass peg that sticks out beyond the nut? I’m considering getting a socket wrench set to avoid scratches.

​@@mcprjosmel Sure... a metric deep socket that would clear the shaft of the cam would definitely work. You could also get the same benefit by using a box end wrench if you can't find a socket thats deep enough. Regardless... make sure you get a 6-Point socket or box wrench and NOT a 12-Point! The 6-point has more surface bearing area and offers the least chance of damage to the chrome. Even still I'd probably still wrap the nut with a layer of tape just to be on the safe side.

@@mcprjosmel The job calls for a 22mm "Deep" socket. Get yourself a good one of those in your toolbox and this job is a cakewalk.

If you need the correct wrenches for the metric system, use the 23 mm and 27 mm sizes.

They are 22mm and 26mm on my Lelit Mara X.

@@tchpandy I've measured the nuts with my calipers and they are 22.54mm and 26.46mm. It is due to the chrome layer, I suppose. So I didn't even try using 22mm and 26mm wrenches.

@@serhii.korinnyi I've just completed this on mine - big nut measured 25.97mm on my calipers and a 26mm spanner with a single layer of PVC tape around each jaw worked nicely (just needed the slightest of nudges). Hopefully they're not too inconsistent between models! Cheers.

You didn’t remove the lower flush part? If you do it makes it MUCH MUCH easier to get the shaft installed back in, Lelit Insider did this. I had the stronger spring in the bottom of mine which came with the flow profile kit. I don’t see the benefit of it so I removed it and went back to the stock spring. Now that it is lubricated and the softer spring is back in, it is as smooth as silk! It feels too easy to move actually! But it’s because I was using the strings spring, and I had not done this lubrication in a whole year. It was stiff!
