Articulation is also useful in conjunction with leaning steer tires to prevent or reduce side draft (tendency of the machine to be pulled toward the toe end of the moldboard due to weight/drag of the load on the blade). The idea is to swing the frame toward the toe end of the board and lean the tires toward the heel end (soil discharge side) this will put a bit more pressure on the steers and increase the width of the tracking area creating a more stable platform and also increasing front traction to a degree. Only downside is you can't use as much power as the machine frame is strongest in the centered position. More articulation = higher risk of damage to the articulation joint and cylinders. Most commonly seen when cutting steep slopes where the machine is sideways to the hill vs going uphill or downhill (think Talladega or Daytona speedways) in this situation its usually easier to cut high to low and have the machine articulated to the high side, with the drive axles being closer to the bottom of the slope and the nose of the frame pointed towards the top, with the tires also leaned towards the high side of the slope (opposite of what you'd do on flat ground). This puts the moldboard at a much sharper angle across the frame but decreases the tendency of the machine to slide down the slope.

Quick tip when cutting slop off. Angle the moldboard more so it flows off the blade and not pushing it like a dozer would and roll the blade back more.

30 years, I bet your a grumpy old bastard🤣🤣🤣. Just jokin mate. I drive a watercart, and sometimes a posi, backhoe, tipper etc. but mostly watercart on new subdivisions, so spend alot of time stringing and rolling with grader operaters. And although we usually have a great operater, alot of them have a reputation for being grumpy bastards, probably because it is a high pressure job for an operater when you are under the pump, running gravel, trying to trim, and dealing with gear jammers and watercart drivers, roller drivers, useless labourers etc. Anyway , Im hoping old mate is going to give me a bit of a run in his tomorrow, which is a joystick one, same as the one in video, but a 140

I love that denim blue color for that grader! Figured the blade would have an auto leveling where you punch in a grade angle. If it's entirely manual that requires a lot of skill. Definitely more complex than a wheel loader.
@rustyh1686
@rustyh1686 3 жыл бұрын
I reckon one of the most complex machines to operate. Im yet to have a go. They do have ones with gradecontrol, gps, and even auto leveling I believe. But even with automatic heights, there is so much other stuff on a grader to operate still. I take my hat off to grader operaters, and completly understand why they become grumpy old bastards with the complacated machine and quite often high pressure jobs

You were Partially correct on Some of the description but it’s best to leave instruction of a blade to a blade hand. There is almost NO relationship from a dozer to a blade as you refer to in the video. A blade is a Finish tool and is far too complex to generalize the control and moldboard functions.

There really isnt much to a roller, steering wheel. A lever on your right which simply push forward and drives forward, pull back and drive back. And a switch on the joystick will turn vibe on and off. usually a switch for park brake and a switch or dial to turn your revs up. That is a single drum padfoot or smooth drum anyway. There is also alot of different types of rollers👍
