Tetramesh is the most commonly used 3D mesh type as it can capture complex geometries accurately. Hypermesh has advanced tools for generation and optimization of 3D Tetramesh.
In this video, I will explain 2 methods to create a Tetramesh using Hypermesh. We will also take a brief look at 3D mesh quality criteria (Tetcollapse). The process to fix faulty elements is also shown.
Automatic as well as Manual methods to create and improve Tetramesh quality are explained in detail.

Thank you for clear illustration.. Is there any way we could reduce the number of tet elements in an existing mesh ?
@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap Жыл бұрын
Remesh using a larger element size is the best option. I don't think manual editing can do the job effectively.
@lokeshvt5009

For checking tetracollapse...while editing individual elements manually..how do we define the inside edges bcz we masked remaining elements... although we assumed and edited, at that time collapse will 0..but again we checked for elements that time we found more number of elements were failed in tetracollapse...some already edited edges were came outside.....what is the solution for this ??
@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lokesh, to avoid such issues, I would always recommend using the automatic fix option for tetcollapse. The manual option is only in case automatic option is not giving required results. It can be very tedious task to fix all elements manually. Please use the automatic option only!

Thank you for the video sir. I have a doubt whether the quality index feature shows/Highlights internal mesh also or not? In the video quality index shown some white tetra elements failing on the surface. What if some tetra Elements are failing within the body? Will those be indicated somehow or we'll have to check using mask option?
@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Vijil, The quality index highlights all the elements, internal as well as on the surface. When you click 'save failed', all the failing elements will get saved. Does not matter if they are visible from the surface or not. I hope this answers you question :)

We know that if there is a free edge in the model tetra mesh will not be generated as it is indicating that it is not closed volume... But what is the reason for component with T Junctions ??
@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, A T junction is like a separator. If there are 2 enclosed volumes on either side of the T junction, it will get meshed without issues. However, tetramesh is a type of 3D mesh performed on solid components. It is unlikely to find a solid componenet with planar t junctions! T junctions are almost always found in surface geometries. I hope this clears your doubt!

In tetra mesh option, fix element option is not clearing the failures.
@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the automatic tetra fix option will not correct all failing elements. You have to use manual mesh editing to correct the remaining faulty mesh regions.

Hello brother, again an excellent video.. I have a question regardless from generating tetramesh.. How do we decide "treshold" for any quality index? You explained that for tet collapse, it is better to have results which are converging to 1 instead of 0. But how can we decide the limit value? (in this video it is written as 0.3) Thanks in advance!
@Aeroswap
@Aeroswap 3 жыл бұрын
Good question! So the threshold can be different for different organizations. It totally depends on the analyst to decide how good be wants the mesh quality to be. For highly reliable and advanced FEA, industry standard value of tetcollapse is usually 0.7 For general verification problems, any value of tetcollapse above 0.1 can be considered satisfactory. As it is better to keep this value near 1, I decided to use 0.3 considering that I am okay with this level of mesh quality!

In terms of analysis, it will not cause any errors. But yes, removing all free edges is recommended for better accuracy.

Open edges panel by pressing 'SHIFT+F3'. Then select all elements and with a proper tolerance value, equivalence them. This will close all gaps in the 2D mesh.

Hi! In the autofix option, check the box next to element length and angle. Enter the required value. Then the automatic fix will also consider these parameters for tetramesh quality check.
